Looks like a tough road ahead for them. A major pandemic with a mutating pathogen, shaky economy, rioters on their Left, rioters on their Right, high federal, state, and local debt levels, high business and consumer debt levels, large budget and trade deficits, monetary concerns, potentially escalating geopolitical tensions, and ever present environmental concerns.
No matter what they do, someone is going to be pissed off and probably will take out their frustrations on a police car, government building, a business, a statue, or someone else. Opps, I should have pluralized the preceding.
The tools in their arsenal are science, technology, communication skills, and thoughtful action. Perhaps instead of sugarcoating a potentially unpopular policy to some, it may be best to be forthright and and explain the detailed reasoning behind each policy, while offering the other side a “Consolation” policy or measure. Such action, especially if repeated over time, would likely result in the other side as feeling reasonably represented, creating an increased willingness to cooperate.
I believe if the Biden-Harris Administration go heavy handed against those on the Right and their representatives, it will only keep our polarization and mistrust of politicians and the media at high levels, leading to boycotts, lower consumer spending, and less business confidence. The manifestation of the preceding will be civil unrest and poorer economic performance than what would otherwise be the case. It may actually be beneficial in the long run if the Biden-Harris Administration held the press accountable, even if they are the beneficiaries of media “Soft pedaling”. Credibility of our political leaders and the media are critical in defusing long term resentment from all sides.
It may be appropriate for the Vice President to take on an expanded roll than historically has been the case. Perhaps Kamala will take on several major responsibilities as part of her continued development as a top leader while reducing the load on our President.
There is lot going on and this Administration has a full plate on their hands. Hopefully all of us will give them a chance to perform to their full potential. After all, if they perform well, it may lead them to successfully addressing many of the issues facing us, to the benefit of all of us.
