The 2012 "First Debate" thread. Lets all try to keep this to one thread.

Quote from tradingjournals:

Why didn't the president go after Romney's taxes and the 47%? Was it by design, and if so why?

I thought that maybe the President wanted to let Romney do his dance and define Romney by Romney's words, and knock him out in the second debate. This has other benefits: lower profile might elect more democrats, and avoid the discussion centered on the president is he was say aggressive which would have made him appear less Presidential. Now if he is aggressive in the second round, there is only upside and no downside on this.

Romney's 45 minutes of fame has passed. Will he run in 2016?

Obama looked very jaded, no longer the confident, persuasive young man he was...he was probably thinking...." this f%$%^ing job..."

The tax thing has been resolved in favor of Romney and at the expense of Reid et al, and Obama wouldn't even go near the 47% because he knows that he's been buying votes with handouts and Romney can prove it.

LOL. Did you see the pics of the home he is buying in Hawaii to retire to? It's incredible. He's probably thinking, I don't need this crap, I'd rather retire to Hawaii and relax for a while. I could be like Bill Clinton and just stick my nose where it doesn't belong when ever I want to. Besides, I could make more money reading my teleprompter at events around the country.

Quote from Yannis:

What was that stupid grin that Obama had all over his face every time he was caught lying during the debate? The man knew he was trying to fool us all and he felt guilty and embarassed. Romney looked authoritative and serious, Obama was lost without his teleprompter and the puppeteer's voice in his ear. :(

Yep, fifty million people watched mr actor ocommunist get taken to school. It was so wicked, I almost... Almost:D felt sorry for Odumbass. Without his TelePrompTer, and pre-written bullshit speeches, fifty million people know KNOW what plays basketball, and hangs out with rappers on their dime, in the White House. Loved every second of last night! Wow!

What we had a glimpse of last night was the true Obama, an annoyed leftist professor. He's great at giving speeches, lectures, and doesn't like to be questioned. Just shut up and listen as he spews pearls of wisdom upon you. Anyone who questions get's the cold shoulder and an F.
To be fair all presidents surround themsleves with yes men and hear Hail to the Chief one too many times, but when you have a guy who thinks he's a god to begin with, things get out of hand. Bottom line, Obama wants to be a King, and who can blame him? He's been told his entire adult life that he is one. The King was just forced to take a big bite of the reality shit sandwich the rest of us have been chewing on, and the look on his face told everyone what he thought of it.

Actually, that's all Romney was doing last night. It all sounds so good, tugging on the American heartstrings values of free enterprise, rising tide, and all that, but it only works in Romney's case without the details, where the Devil lies. Obama looked like his head was full of details, mired in them like Carter, probably. Just keeping asking Romney what he'll actually DO, and you'll either get nothing, or something that will demonstrably not work (now), or something that looks like Obama's solutions.

Don't hold your breath waiting to hear details from either one of these guys. The devil is mighty ugly regardless of who shows it. It's a clear choice between idealogies. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's a good point. If Romney had brought up the fact that Obama is telling companies to break the law and not send out layoff notices required by the Hatch Act and is offering for the taxpayer to pay any legal fees and judgements, that would have sunk Obama's presidency.

99% of the public have no idea Obama has done this.

Obama's head was full of details... he was tiptoeing through the minefield of his own failures. If he made a point he had to worry he left himself open for a crushing reply...

he had no where to go on economic issues as food stamps or unemployment or massive debt instead of his 50% cut... or taxmageddon, or masive increase on middle class via Sup Ct decisions would just maul him.

He could not even point to Obamacare as a big winner because the Sup Ct might be taking it up again.

Obama was lucky he did as well as he did given the massive failures he has experienced.
