No, they're not. This is the problem with most, especially American movies which state "based on true events" or similar. They take 2% of what's real and imagine 98% on top. The viewer goes away now knowing what is real and what isn't. As long-term memories are formed, our brains are incapable of knowing what was real and what wasn't. Many people still believe the story of Fargo was real as it also claimed to have been based on real events, never mind that the directors have said it's 100% fiction.
The experimentation part makes sense but why use such a complex method to kill masses? Time consuming and far more expensive than execution. Germans might be a lot of things but they're logical. Same reason why the idea of using tank engine fumes to kill is ridiculous. Hitler was struggling to find sources of fuel and they suggest he would burn diesel for weeks to kill some prisoners, that's the least efficient way to kill anyone. It does not add up.

The train records and common sense (where are my relatives) show that there were a lot of missing people, many of them Jews, after the war, but a lot of the stories about how the killings happened and where seem to have been based on unreliable witness accounts or by military propagandists. I don't see the harm in digging into the mysteries....the truth could be worse than gas chambers.
