Ted Cruz is a Complex Guy

American success story, child of immigrants who rose to the highest levels of academic achievement, plenty of poignant life experience, with a parent who escaped oppression, a relative who died from substance abuse, etc.

The problem is he's too front-brained to connect on a human level with voters and comes off as mechanical. His intelligence actually makes him less credible because you know that he can't really believe some of the stuff he says for the consumption of the evangelicals he is trying to reach. Even they know it. They vote for Trump because he says what he thinks.

Beneath it all is probably someone who has a lot more human depth than his style lets him project in public.

Trump and Cruz were both horrible last night. Neither one gives an inch and admits there are any gray areas where reasonable people can disagree. It would help both of them to do that.

Cruz is a salesman. A salesman thinks he can talk someone into doing what he wants with some simple time tested techniques.
Trump is a deal maker. He has no need for talk.
The number 1 thing Trump gets criticized on is his talk. The media can't handle the fact that he doesn't talk like all the salesman they are use to dealing with.
The media wants a salesman. That verifies their existence. Because without salesmen there would be no media. And what scares them is, if the people are sick and tired of salesmen, then that means they are also sick and tired of the media.

However much I disagree with Cruz, the man can speak well and clearly. Trump speaks like someone on crack or meth. He repeats himself in the same sentence, but rarely manages to answer a question. Rather, he goes off on an unrelated or, at best, tangential, diatribe and gets lost at sea, thinking he answered on point.

Oh, and he has yet to make a single mistake in his life. He has been asked repeatedly over the course of his campaign, including yesterday, and never once copped to a lapse in judgment. Donald Trump: flawless and perfect.

His absolute refusal to use a script or speech has much to do with this. If other candidates, on both sides, had to ad-lib everything, there would be a whole lot more stupid commentary.

That said, the desire to ad-lib everything and not use a speech ever is blatantly stupid when you're running for office, in my opinion.

Trump does not speak like an intelligent adult. He rarely answers the actual questions asked of him, either by journalists or by town hall participants. It's not just a lack of script. It's lack of thought. He doesn't even think; he's on autopilot.

When asked questions by either combat veterans or those who lost members of their family in combat, he didn't even acknowledge their service -- at least not yesterday on multiple occasions. This from the guy who will "take care of veterans better than anybody."

When the accusation of rough treatment of a journalist by his campaign manager first emerged, his immediate reaction was to dismiss the claim rather than to investigate it. (He "investigated" later.) This from the guy who "cherishes" women.

I cannot fathom how this man has gotten the kind of traction he has. I seriously overestimated the bottom third of the American public.

I don't know if Trump will ultimately demonstrate the right stuff or not, but history is full of examples of the road to ruin being paved by those going along to get along, and someone with bad manners having to pick up the pieces when things fall apart.

yes, That is what you just don't understand. In your language the media is speaking your native tongue and Trump is an outsider. In our hearing, Trump is speaking our language answering to some question in a foreign tongue. We use the same words, but they have different meanings. Trump has no interest in answering questions for people who will never vote for him in a million years. And that's about all the media is these days.
