Teacher resigns after reading students book about gay couple

...messing with 3rd graders is disgusting to me. they are still so fun.
Except, perhaps for a child who feels like an outcast, vulnerable and alone. Then it might not be so fun for that child, with no allowances being made for him or her to feel as though he or she belongs. But the important thing is that it's all fun for you.

"Messing?"

Anyway, I think we all made our respective points here. And, as usual, nothing changes at the ET Corral.

except your point is amorphous. and your solution ridiculous. if kids are bullying or they can be told to stop or be punished. no reason for indoctrination by reading that book.

yes messing with their minds... making them think about things that the vast majority would not have to think about in that community.

if you live in greenwich village than the majority of parents gay and straight might choose to have that book read because 2 dads or 2 moms might be common.

so I can respect that school systems choices as well. let them choose the book, let the people in north carolina reject it.

you all need to live and let live.

So the minority can put up or shut up. That sort of thing, with no allowances for inclusion?

I know you're just trolling, but some people don't seem to get the point of this. It comes down to a question of who is entitled to set the agenda for inculcating values into young children. Is it parents and voters or is it a homosexual teacher and assistant principal? We are not talking high school students. These were third graders. Parents have a legitimate interest in not having young children sexualized at school or fed gay propaganda.

It has nothing to do with inclusion, respect for minorities or any other buzzwords. To the extent any of those concerns are valid, they could be addressed without force feeding young children propaganda that directly contradicted many of their parents' deeply held religious principles.

As an aside, it is stupefying that the school board could not immediately rule that this odious book and anything similar are totally inappropriate for elementary school kids. When liberals wring their hands and wonder why there isn't more support for public schools and their always growing demands for money, remember this episode. If they cannot make a rational decision on something this simple, why would we want to trust them with more resources?

Keep in mind that the school board in Orange County (home of UNC Chapel Hill) is very liberal. This school is located in a corner of the county away from the university.

By taking no action, the school board effectively ruled that the book is acceptable in elementary schools.

Keep in mind that the teacher and administrator were forced to resign because they did not follow state guidelines in addressing the alleged bullying incident, not due to reading the book.

or move. exactly. the supreme court sets rules for when the minority needs to be protected and the circumstances. if the minority opinion is always protected what is the point of democracy.

I realize you lefties do not like the fact that the people get to vote... but we do.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, white people have another 30 years to enjoy being America's majority race. But come 2045, the white population will make up less than 50 percent of the American population for the first time ever.

Get back to us.

A lot can happen in 30 years. Like maybe we stopped immigration for a decade or so, like we did in the early 20th century and started deporting illegals.

.

Does this mean we can put affirmative action in place for whites? I can't wait!
