The old farts being in power has little do with it, even if the goverment was full of 40 year olds the result would be same.
Young or old, politicians dont really care much about Covid wiping out the old in care homes.
They only care about what the media and opposition will say about it.
The media and opposition don't really care either, they just use the deaths as an excuse to score points against the politicians in power.

Old in care homes is very problematic and its a symptom of a bigger problem within the healthcare system that's not related to being old. The problem is that the healthcare system that's not prepare to manage a Pandemic.

Politicians do care...most are old themselves and the voting rights of those old farts (growing population) are the ones that have a big impact on the re-elections of the policy makers in government.

They care enough to drop interest rates so low...rumors now talking about negative interest rates if needed. They care enough to throw trillions of dollars at the Pandemic problem in the hopes of buying some extra time until a vaccine / approved treatment is discover and in hopes the Covid-19 doesn't mutate and attack the young in similar fashion.

If they didn't care...they would have never done a lockdown.

Yes, the one you are debating: Humans are not equal. Maybe by law,(even that is debatable) but not medically, ethically or virologically.

I stated - Life is valuable no matter the age

You stated - Humans are not equal

We are talking about two different things. Simply, there's no debate. That's the point I'm making.

I will now add again (I think you missed it in my reply to someone else)...hospitals have policies in place that its first come first serve. Simply, an elderly that's ill with Covid-19 is treated even if later in the day a young person arrives to the hospital with Covid-19...

The hospital policy will continue treating the elderly and not the young person if the hospital is over capacity. Simply, they will not tell the elderly...I'm sorry, we need your ventilator and bed space for the young person that just arrived with the same illness.

The sooner you understand we're not talking about the same thing, you'll better understand that life is valuable no matter the age nor the health of the world.

As for the Pandemic, Sweden policy makers (elderly folks) made a decision not to lockdown. A decision not made by a 5 year old...another point I'm making.

They have dealt with this Pandemic their own way but are now regretting it. Well...I don't live there and glad I don't because I would be a little upset if my policy makers made a policy decision that put my life at great risk and then is now stating "we have maybe made a mistake".

It's simple about Pandemics...to achieve herd immunity (the goal of their policy)...you must first have either a vaccine or approved treatment. It's similar to other places (e.g. U.S.A.) re-opening too soon prior to any national testing availability. prior to any adequate national contact tracing and prior to a sustain decline on the other side of the infection bell curve...the latter gives the illusion of herd immunity but its what you want.

It's never been achieved any other way and Sweden thought they would be the first to create a new way to achieve herd immunity....ooops.

It is not crap and fear, just some societies decided to protect the elderly and the hospital workers. Once it is spreading real good in India and Brazil and Mexico, we can compare those to let's say Germany and Nepal (countries who acted quickly and correctly), unlike the Italians and Americans.

So let's get back to this stats in a month, shall we?

By the way your solution would have worked back in February. Now that hospitals are filling up, even the young will die in bigger numbers. And even that solution is giving us 1-2 million dead. (1-2% of the 150 million workforce)

14th so far 215 + Sunday ( 3 last week reported )
21st could be sub 200 not a big drop this week.

0.002% of population not enough to care about or addition 11% increase to standard deaths this week. ( UK's about 5% extra deaths this week from Covid )

They've got Herd, 9 weeks estimated till sub 20 deaths per week, then it'll be safe for the weak to come out, be another 6months in the UK before it's safe due to lockdown and expect they'll drop the shielding over the next 10days so pointless.

Yep, very obvious the it's not a big deal just media hype and fear where correct, but still the scared can't see this, but people don't like to admit to making a mistake, so nothing new.

Took longer to pass in the UK than expected, but Lockdowns for you, all they do is slow the spread maybe 50% so twice as long. Yeah it's passed hospitals have closed the Covid wards, stat's department for Covid has closed, not enough new cases and don't even get the 5pm news with the death update cause there not enough to scare anyone.

With all the protesting, unemployment lines, election rallies about the start, major sports returning, re-opening of businesses and the increasing no mask wearing, no protective eye wear, re-opening of elective hospital care...

The infection rate is dramatically rising because there's no fear any more in comparison to April.

People have decided in the past month that crowd gathering is more important than their health. Many doing such for a good cause and others not.

The good thing is more hospitals are getting PPE, ventilators, beds and other medical equipment. If that 2nd wave doesn't show up...they'll then have their warehouse of protective equipment that they use to have prior to many global countries decided to stop manufacturing / preparing for any future Pandemics.

That global decision has cost economies trillions of dollars and lost jobs.

Unfortunately, Pandemics have been increasing since early 1900s...not decreasing. Most of us here at ET will see another 1 - 2 Pandemics before our lifetime is over.

That's scary because the evilness of Pandemics...

The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.
