And in the end most democracies vote for a mix of capitalism and socialism. Maybe because some things are best left to individual and others the society (defense and infrastructure everywhere? and in those "socialist" countries things like healthcare, education, pensions). If going badly democracy can adjust it ideally without a swing too far left or right. Democracy relies on an educated electorate but sometimes you do wonder.....UK/US politics.The index of economic freedom is just another gauge that has some merit but there is no end all be all measure that can capture the true, complete picture of any society and their economy.

Democracy, not Socialism.
A benevolent dictatorship can work wonders with long term planning and leadership which is missing in the 'west' but unfortunately may not always be benevolent (power corrupts etc)
