So much for Global Warming

Snowing in South Texas and New Orleans. So far in Chicago this Dec. is running in the top 6 coldest months on record. Last winter was one of the coldest as well. I'll let you geniuses draw your own conclusions.

For those who don't know, science is based on evidence. Nothing is a fact. Not even the "laws" of physics are actually laws always obeyed.

I recall a TV commercial against global warming a few years ago from some religious group. In it, they basically stated that CO2 is good and that it is required for life. No sh*t, I guess if CO2 is so good, than dumping more of it into the air can't be bad right? I mean its not like too much CO2 can kill you or impact global weather right?

Also, .......just because it was warm yesterday doesn't mean global warming is a fact.

Finally, it says alot about someone who thinks that because global warming might not be true, it's perfectly okay to pollute the air.

Agree, with your bottom line anaylsis, cybtropic, that is cool .cool:

Not sure what ''religion'' you are talking about, but most of the Christians, believers, or Jews i know are for planting trees, wise use/harvest.
Wrong assumption, to assume therefore ''dumping more cant be bad''. Understandable assumption, but wrong.

Science is based on evidence;
sure, if scientists are pure as the driven snow. But scientists are NOT pure as the driven snow.

Google ''piltdown man or '' piltdown man fraud''
And also, ever seen Ben Stein & his movie ad for EXpelled ?????????????????????

Maybe scientificaly accurate, to call the global warming fraud ''a new religion'', but Dr Adrian Rogers of Love Worth FInding always says of religion;
if its new, its not true.

Agreed, some scientists, medical doctors, and even lawyers and politicians are not that pure. The mother nature, however, does not care if two-legged upright walking beings obey its laws or not. Science is based on evidence, and we have a nice evidence of what gods do to god-loving public. The experiment has been made, results well understood, and now it's only a matter of time when similar results will be achieved on a global scale:

This is exceprt about Easter Island/ Rapanui http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Easter_Island

Destruction of society and population

A series of devastating events killed almost the entire population of Easter Island in the 1860s.

In December 1862, Peruvian slave raiders struck Easter Island. Violent abductions continued for several months, eventually capturing or killing around 1500 men and women, about half of the island's population. International protests erupted, escalated by Bishop Florentin-Etienne Jaussen of Tahiti. The slaves were finally freed in autumn, 1863, but by then most of them had already died of tuberculosis, smallpox and dysentery. Finally, a dozen islanders managed to return from the horrors of Peru, but brought with them smallpox and started an epidemic, which decimated the island's population to the point where some of the dead were not even buried.

Contributing to the chaos were violent clan wars with the remaining people fighting over the newly available lands of the deceased, bringing further famine and death among the dwindling population.

The first Christian missionary, Eugène Eyraud, arrived in January 1864 and spent most of that year on the island; but mass conversion of the Rapanui only came after his return in 1866 with Father Hippolyte Roussel and shortly after two others arrived with Captain Jean-Baptiste Dutrou-Bornier. Eyraud was suffering from phthisis (tuberculosis) when he returned and in 1867, tuberculosis raged over the island, taking a quarter of the island's remaining population of 1,200 including the last member of the island's royal family, the 13-year-old Manu Rangi. Eyraud died of tuberculosis in August 1868, by which time the entire Rapanui population had become Roman Catholic.

[edit] Dutrou-Bornier
Jean-Baptiste Dutrou-Bornier — arms dealer, gambler, bigamist, murderer, slave dealer, encourager of apostasy and alleged ship wrecker — was to have a long lasting impact on the island. He set up residence at Mataveri, aiming to cleanse the island of most of the Rapanui and turn the island into a sheep ranch. He married Koreto, a Rapanui, and appointed her Queen, tried to persuade France to make the island a protectorate, and recruited a faction of Rapanui whom he allowed to abandon their Christianity and revert to their previous faith. With rifles, a cannon, and hut burning, supporters ran the island for several years.[20]

Dutrou-Bornier bought up all of the island apart from the missionaries area around Hanga Roa and moved a couple hundred Rapanui to Tahiti to work for his backers. In 1871 the missionaries, having fallen out with Dutrou-Bornier, evacuated all but 171 Rapanui to the Gambier islands[21] . Those who remained were mostly older men. Six years later, there were just 111 people living on Easter Island, and only 36 of them had any offspring.[22]

"Queen Mother" Koreto with her daughters "Queen" Caroline and Harriette in 1877In 1876 Dutrou-Bornier was murdered in an argument over a dress, though his kidnapping of pubescent girls may also have motivated his killers.[23]

From that point on and into the present day, the island's population slowly recovered. But with over 97% of the population dead or left in less than a decade, much of the island's cultural knowledge had been lost.

Sure many scientists may be BSing, even though their research is published in "a journal." BUT you will NOT find BS data published in a RESPECTABLE journal. Do you remember that Korean scientist who published that stem cell data few years ago and was basically a hero in his country. Well no one could repeat his data and ultimately it was discovered to be BS.

Just like with any other profession, scientists are just human and you will always have bad ones. The difference is that for any theory to be accepted you need a MAJORITY of all scientists agreeing.

Global warming MAY not be caused by man. The question is can we afford to not do anything if it is?

Something like 80-90% of scienists agree on global warming BUT certain republicans, I mean americans, choose to believe the minority, 10-20%.

Let me give you another example:

Lets say that 90% of scienists have done analysis and find that a huge asteroid will hit earth in 5 years.

But, 10% of scientists believe that the asteroid will pass close to a mars and its moons, and be deflected and will miss earth.

Who do you believe, and what do you prepare for? Apparently, republicans would not act at all, since 10% of scienists think it will miss earth.

It could be the same with global warming. There may be a point of no return past which we may not be able to stop global warming, even if we finally acknowledge it is real and caused by man.

The price for being wrong is too great. The problem is that some people do not care about the future, and they do not care about their children.

THey only care about today. THey don't care that their children will have to pay HUGE taxes, as long as today taxes are low.

but doing nothing helps the people in the present. and the relationship between CO2 and temperature is not lineair correlated. If you put up the graphs CO2 comes after the temperature increase, not before. Also hot seawater can dissolve less gasses, so will free CO2 if it is hotter. So what is the effect of 6 billion humans breathing out CO2. If CO2 is like oxygen to trees and plants, isn't more CO2 a good thing. It means we will get larger trees and more tropical temperatures. This will offset the destruction that is occurring in the amazone. Tropical forests in western countries are better manageable. It's like going back into dinosaur territory. Also why do we have global cooling over the last few years but less ice (kinda like a pullback in a trend, but CO2 is obviously not pulling back) . It makes no sense whatsoever. And what is the role of sunspots?

basically theres a reason why we had dinosaurs and huge insects and huge trees 100 m length a few million years ago. probably because of more CO2 in the air. i want to see a live dinosaur so i want more CO2!

Consensus Science is a religion, a belief based on hope for more grant money.

"The work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics."

http://www.michaelcrichton.net/speech-alienscauseglobalwarming.html

Thats like saying church is a haven for child molesters, because some priests molested children.

Science is based on evidence, NOT lack of evidence, like relgious beliefs.

DO you even know how hard it is to get public grant money in the U.S.? You research has to be based on significant knowledge of what is currently known, NOT hope. Again, you need significant evidence for something to do further research and get grant money.

You CANNOT come up with a theory, provide no background evidence that could support it, and get a grant. THAT is religion.

Maybe people should focus on REAL scientists, NOT someone that got a degree from some island university.

Again, 90% of people on here are completely clueless on science, yet continue to comment on it.

Wow. I've been worrying about the wrong things. Damn. I'm having a difficult time wondering whether I should position the toilet paper to be pulled from the top or bottom.

I find it much easier to pull it from the top. But there are many opinions on this.
