Six 22" monitor setup

Quote from Scataphagos:

If you're getting an Intel CPU, then X58 or P55 mobo will be just fine. If AMD CPU, then 890 mobo... just make sure you get one with enough x16 slots for the video cards to power the number of monitors you want to run and enough PCI slots to run your legacy devices, if any.

You are the Man! Thanks!

why don't you go for broke.. get a i-7 proc, three 30" monitors and about 10 gig of mem coupled to a 1000watt PS? ..that's a class-A sys

wouldn't have to upgrade for 10 yrs

:D

After the check I'm going to be writing this week, I don't know if I'll have enough $ left to go to an internet cafe. :( :D

How much is that setup? I can't imagine 3 30" with 10gig. Wow!

Memory and LCD's are both very cheap, not going to break the bank. IMO overkill, but if it makes your P&L Green go for it!

I was wondering what three 30" monitors turned vertically would be like? Side by side, I wouldn't have the room, but vertically? Hmmmm

Going to build it. (With some help!:) )

Welcome to the DIY club, bro! :)

My thoughts:

If you decide on having the 2560 x 1600 30" screens, make sure you have the video card(s) that would support it. Because the low-price cards such as PNY 8400 GS cannot support that kind of high res.

The set of 6 x 22" (1920 x 1080) [equate to 12.4 Mil pixels]
3 x 30" (2560 x 1600) [equate to 12.2 Mil pixels]. About the same.

The ATI video card that supports 2560 x 1600 resolution sounds much more expensive than the run-of-the-mill 1920x1080 card. I am not sure if it supports dual 30" mons. And I also feel that the 30" monitors are much more expensive than the 22-24 group. May be $1100 each?

If my guess is correct, 3 x 30" mons = $3300+, 2 (or 3?) ATI cards = $600. Just this display component is already $3900. (Much higher than your PC box)

The 6 x 22" mon options: 6 x $200 + 3 x $60 = $1380.

Perhaps this suggestion:

Get some cardboards. Do some cut-outs. 3 x 30" mon (about 28" x 21"). And 6 x 22" mon (about 20" x 17"). Lay/mount the cardboards in front of you on your trading desk. Imagine how you would display your trading charts. See which configuration would suit you the best.
