...
A lot of good posts in this thread. I know ET is mostly populated with retirees now, so the viewpoints originate from that generation. I'm a guy in my mid-30's, with perhaps 40 years ahead of me (God willing). What I'm facing is a Greek-style economic collapse, with possible hyperinflation, combined with a hollowed out economy and a Government fully-bought and paid for by Corporations, who have managed to take away most of my freedoms under the false pretense of 'terrorism'. From what I gather, the elderly aren't too concerned about all this because in a short while, they 'won't be here' anymore.... So when it gets ugly soon (and it will), and the generational strife heats up over a vastly shrinking pie and who will win and who will lose because of it, consider the indifference many of us younger folk will express towards your precious entitlements getting the axe, largely stem from bequeathing a shit pile to us because you, collectively, were too stupid/cavalier/naïve/lazy and greedy to protect the economy and the Constitution.
Sincerely,
The Future.
I totally get where you're coming from. There's plenty of blame to spread around. It is annoying to be blamed for the mistakes of probably 51% of my generation though. A lot of us opposed it all, beginning with LBJ's War on Poverty.
The blame game won't solve any problems now though. Thinking you can cut seniors off from what was promised them in SS, etc is not productive and will not happen. A lot of people in your generation realize if they were somehow able to chop those programs, they would suddenly be responsible for taking care of their elderly parents. Oops.
The solutions to me are pretty clear. One, stop this insane immigration policy of brirnging in vast numbers of future wlefare recipients. Two, stop spending money on foreign wars and reliving the glories of the Cold War. Three, reform entitlement programs going forward. Four, ruthlessly cut government discretionary spending. Eliminating the departments not constitutionally authorized, ie about two thirds of them, would be a good start.
Your generation is not going to get any of that by stupidly voting for the likes of obama however. Maybe if you got off your phones and quit trying to blame it all on someone else, you'd realize there is more to voting than just blinfly going with the minority candidate or the person who would do best on Idol. I know that would go against all the indoctrination you've recieved your whole life, but it's your only hope.
