Well that is an idea that may actually deter a goodly amount of people. I don’t know if it will significantly reduce access to guns on the black market or address mass shootings though. These are the areas that need immediate attention.

I will keep it short but add in that it is just part of the solution for mass shootings. And is a building block that can be strengthened by penalizing failures of reporting agencies to report.

Example. The Virginia Tech shooter clearly, clearly, clearly had been hospitalized before the shooting for mental health reasons and for being a danger to himself and/or others. But he passed a background check quicker than shiite because no one reported it into the database. So not only do you have the massive numbers already being rejected but you have massive numbers that would be rejected but passed because reporting into the data base is loosey goosey.

I support closing gun show loopholes too which usually gets me some hate mail from the conservatives. That's fine. If I want a friend I will get a dog.

Great. Guns shows is a significant contributor to the black market sale of guns. That would make a difference.

Still wouldn’t be enough though.

Should only these people be allowed to have guns
What is their gun crime rate compared to the general population

Background check + Republican + NRA member = safest group of gun owners

Can I ask why when the issue of stopping mass shootings and gun violence in America we have to bring in lawful owners who would not be denied a weapon?

Why do these things have to be mixed up with each other?

What "gun show loophole" are you referring to?

Being able to buy without background check. Although much has changed of late so I don't know what the status is around the country these days.

Every single gun show I have ever been to required a background check. And I've been to a lot.

What can happen, is two private citizens meeting at a gun show and buying/selling from each other. They are supposed to check ID and fill out a form that the seller keeps, but they might not do it.

However, this can happen outside of gun shows and isn't something related to the gun show. But every vendor selling at a gun show is required to do an ID check.
