If it was because it lowers IQ, Sessions would have to crack down on Democrats to be fair.
Not sure why he wants to alienate yet another size segment of Trump's base,
In the case of Sessions, the size of his fan club is a measure of depravity and poor education in the Deep South, where schools are aptly referred to as "Attendance Centers".
You sure you're not referring to inner city schools in the north?
It could be that as well. Our deteriorated public education system (limited to specific locations) is coming back to haunt us in several ways. This problem can be fixed, but will we?
No argument there. Just pointing out that this is a public education issue, not something related to the size of any perceived "fan club".
The problems with public education are endemic to the Deep South because of its history, whereas in the North public education quality has significantly greater variability. In some regions of the country, public education is generally very good to excellent.
This am , on NPR, there was a story about remedial education which is aimed at getting older students caught up sufficiently that they can qualify for admission to college level courses. We already know that results from these programs, when they are aimed at preparing students for a liberal arts college path, are dismal, and that would be an understatement.
Emphasis on remedial education, and particularly that on "accelerated" remedial education, except for an extremely small and selective population of students, is a terrible waste of time and money. These programs should be abandoned and the money and effort diverted to education improvements, i.e., much smaller class size, in pre-school through the fourth grade. That would pay major dividends.
We have had half hearted attempts to do what I propose, Head Start for example, but the efforts have been continually thwarted by Republicans who try to squeeze money for public education down to the last dime. Republicans are the enemy of public education, thus they are the enemy of democracy! Head Start has only half the resources it really needs and the money on Head Start is wasted unless it is followed up with addition funding for kindergarten through the Fourth grade. The data shows that the results from Head Start are lost by the fourth grade. Our public school class size in Kindergarten through Fourth grade is twice the optimum.

It has everything to do with it. It is a fan Club of the Deep South and impoverished sections of rural America where education levels are generally low..
Ok, so the fact that I like Sessions, am not from the Deep South or any impoverished section of rural America and have multiple higher education degrees does what to your theory? And I know lots of folks like myself.
My example is just as anecdotal as yours.
