I read the article about San Francisco, their minimum wage is $10+ an hour. I seriously doubt the the average daily wage being $15 to $35 and you probably do too.
I was wrong using the word rare in illegals being paid below the minimum wage but still haven't seen any evidence of what percentage of illegal workers are paid below minimum wage. I've talked to a few farmers who hire illegals and they were paying well above minimum wage. But talking to a couple of farmers doesn't mean much and in my part of the country good labor is hard to find so wages could be higher because of that.

Google is your friend - there are many studies. First hit is a NYT article.

Here is a pertinent quote on an article covering low paid workers:

That is surprising to me gwb. I've talked to many people from Mexico in several parts of the country and haven't talked to anyone making less than minimum wage. Back in the late 90's, when I'd pick up Mexican workers at the corner downtown to help clean up or do labor work the going rate was $10 an hour cash. If I remember Monday I'll ask my roofing subs who are from Mexico if they know anyone working for less than minimum wage. My main guy was just telling me a couple of weeks ago about a roofing sub in Amarillo paying his Mexican workers $100 a day and couldn't keep help because the pay was so low. He told me his guys make about $200 a day and he makes much more than that. I think all his guys are legal.

It sounds like the illegal immigrants see you as an easy mark. They tell you everyone else pays them 20 dollars an hour, and being the oblivous sucker that you are you pay them 10 an hnour.

They can see your camper coming from a mile away their eyes light up with glee cause they know they are about to swindle a sucker.

Max is one of the few people who could pay someone slave wages and brag about it online. Back when I used to do commercial work if I received a bid from a sub that was substantially below the other bids I would call the sub to verify his price, I make my money doing quality work not by screwing over people. I've also had guys underbid yard work for me too and I paid them more than what they quoted, but max does not appear to be a decent man but an ignorant arrogant fool, he knows very little about what he argues with me about my business.
