I was born in Russia. All my friends know that. I lived in the West for 40+ years. Have not encountered even one instance of russophobia, neither back during the Cold War nor now. But then my friends know that I think Putin is a rabid dog with nuclear weapons and rabid dogs require extraordinary measures.

If I in any way defended Putin, I would probably get weird looks. But it would not be because I was born in Russia. It would be because they would think I am an idiot.

And that has been my point all along. In war times most people are not rational. Not even those who should remain rational. That's why the likes of Churchill demand such respect and hold a role model status in the history books.

But even worse, not even during war times, certain cultures are so emotionally unstable that they leash out at anyone they perceive has the same nationality or skin color or eats the same food as some identified threat. Asians during covid especially in the US is an excellent example. Or how about the Japanese internment camps of thousands of innocent AMERICAN citizens of Japanese origin in the US after the pearl harbor attacks. Those American Japanese were the same who served in WW2 and became the highest decorated war heros who fought for the US. History has a funny way to put racists and dumb people into their right place.

The same were for those Asians who got attacked. They were born in the West and lived their whole lives in the West and they got attacked just the same. Wars do not allow people to be rational.
