This is insane. What possible good can come of it? The risks of a miscalculation are obvious and extreme. I blame both sides, but in all honesty, Putin was no problem for us until Obama and McCain whipped up the Ukraine situation.

There is no upside for us in reigniting the Cold War and plenty of downside. Of course, the eastern Europeans who suffered under the Soviet Union want us to be very aggressive with Russia, but their interests and ours do not necessarily coincide.

There are lots of encounters like this but the only ones reported are surface and air.

I knew someone who was a sonar tech on a USN fast attack submarine and he said there are close encounters and collisions between US and Russian submarines that are never made public and that they were pretty common. That element has persisted even with the dissolution of the USSR.

China likes to pull these incredibly close mid-airs between their fighters and surveillance aircraft flown by the USAF out of northern Japan. A few of those have resulted in collisions and I believe a Chinese fighter pilot was killed in one collision.

The United States certainly provoked the Ukraine situation (along with the EU) in trying to overthrow a corrupt, but elected, leader there. We should have left it alone, but we never can leave anything alone.

How is them using their gas supplies in negotiation of political items a violation of the free market again? Europe can buy gas from other places, no one is stopping them.
