in dollar terms, sure. You've gotta realize tho, China's pop. is very much still 3rd world and they'll weather discomfort much better than comfort accustomed Americans.
nah, they're just fronting for the world. The optics of a global power player are well received by US haters worldwide. Plays well in Latin America for instance, where the hate runs strong due to American interventionism. I'm not even sure how serious they are about Taiwan tbh. It's said Iran's nuclear program was to leverage against sanctions....Taiwan invasion fears could be similar (get more from fear than actual invasion).

A little history, China has been a single large country since the Rome time, or perhaps before that. It exports its finest luxury products to Europe via the Middle East and always had a trade surplus in silver and gold, even South American gold and silver from the Spanish trades.
In another word, they don't give an f*k what's going on with the outside world, and whether they have friends or allies because they don't need them.
So what if they are cut off, all they need is energy and food, forget about other entertaining consumptions, and stay alive until the last man standing. Going down first is the EU and South East Asia. North America is too far and too remote, we are essentially on an island.
