Russia & Ukraine

Putin's looking for a few good men. Well not good men, they will take thugs, rapists, career criminals, psychopaths, and just anyone with four limbs. No matter what... don't miss your opportunity to rush down the Russian conscription center to join the glorious special military operation to take out those evil Ukrainian Nazis while wearing your Z uniform and carrying a stick.

Russian Regions Told To Get Ready For New Drive To Recruit 400,000 Professional Soldiers

Why are you so invested in defending Russia, with or without US helping Ukraine, what Russia is doing is plainly wrong - not just to Ukraine but to its own citizens.

It's not like Iran, North Korea or China is providing Russia much in the way of weapons and ammo. Guess the Russian military will continue to arm themselves with sticks.

Amid Ukraine War, Russia’s Global Hunt for Weapons Turns Up Surprisingly Little

Putin's forces are making such progress.

Russia expanded its territory in Ukraine by less than 0.04% in a month of brutal fighting that cost it thousands of soldiers and vital equipment, says think tank

Propagandists will propagandize, I suppose. What I want to know is how much of what you say you actually believe?

Your first article suggests Russia is facing severe weapons and ammunition shortages. Russia, like NATO, are using obsolete weapons for the most part. Russia appears to be "recruiting" citizens who apparently are considered other than the "cream of the crop". I presume the use of sticks is related to a punishment and or as a message. A message directed to Russia's citizens and perhaps the West.

A relevant measure of territory gained is Ukrainian territory, not the vast Russian territory. After all, if Russia expands it's territory by 3.5% into Ukraine, Ukraine will be swallowed.

Russia is making progress into Ukraine, even if it is at high cost in "expendable" people and obsolete equipment, including sticks, if you prefer. Russia has a considerable reserve of "more formitable" personnel and modern weapons, especially aircraft. There are many different paths this war could take, depending on NATO's commitment to Ukraine and long term plans. I see myself as supporting many different paths, but pray the West has a comprehensive plan, including escalation scenarios and after the war considerations involving reconstruction and normalization of relations with Russia.

I don’t defend Russia, in this case I blame NATO and Ukraine to have provoked Russia. I doubt we will ever agree on this, because to you NATO is the world’s saviour from dictatorship, even though this dictatorship has absolutely nothing to do with you, but it does though, as it stops your elites from everlasting desire to expand internationally, but it’s not what the laymen are told, to you it’s we are the good guys fighting the bad guys. You want to be a crusader? You want to enforce democracy across the globe? Be my guest. Just don’t pretend that this is normal behaviour to enforce your views and beliefs on other societies.

First, let's correct your erroneous assumptions about the measure of territory gained. The article clearly references Russian gains of Ukraine territory, not overall gains to all of Russia. The article outlines that Russia "gained just 0.039% more territory in Ukraine" which is "233.94 square kilometers (90.3 square miles)". The total size of Ukraine is 603,550 square kilometers (233,030 sq mi). 90.3 divided by 233,030 is 0.039%.

Second, let's address your weapons assertions. As outlined by the U.K. MOD, Russia is so low on ammo that they are being forced to use ammo that has been declared unfit for use. Of course the British defense report includes much greater details including the rationing of ammo to bare minimums by the Russians and the slackening of artillery fire. This is coupled with the reality that Russia has used (and expended) not only old but endless piles of their most "modern" military equipment in Ukraine; nearly all of it is inferior to Western equipment. Russia's begging for more military equipment and ammo from other countries is not going well -- so poorly in fact Russia is forced to use rusting ammo declared unfit for use.

Russia does not have a reserve of "formidable" equipped soldiers that can be used for ground conquest in Ukraine. All Putin can do is recruit more cannon fodder to send to the front with minimal training in hopes of overwhelming Ukraine with sheer numbers; a strategy which is not going well.

In regards, to Russia aircraft -- all Putin has been able to do is have strategic bombers launch missiles (while flying over Russia) at civilian targets inside Ukraine. The Russian aircraft basically are not a factor in the fighting at the front; Russia does not control the air and nearly all of their manned aircraft are knocked down immediately if they fly over Ukrainian held territory.

Let's take a look at the greatest threat to Russia. Nobody is killing more Russian speakers at a faster rate than Putin.

UK turns Russophobia argument on Moscow, claims greatest threat to Russian society is war in Ukraine
https://news.yahoo.com/uk-turns-russophobia-argument-moscow-100015661.html

The U.K. on Tuesday looked to turn Moscow’s claim of "Russophobia" on its head when it accused the Kremlin of being the greatest threat to Russian culture and society due to its continued war in Ukraine.

In a U.N. Security Council meeting called by Russia to address what it claims is "Russophobia" coming from Western nations that oppose its war in Ukraine, U.K. Minister Counselor Fergus Eckersley, said, "We do not suffer from Russophobia."

"Russophobia is one of the ever-growing list of excuses the Russian government has come up with to justify its war in Ukraine," he said, giving part of his address in Russian to ensure Russians listening could fully understand him.

"The Russian government may believe that this propaganda will help to justify at home the lives of the tens of thousands of Russian soldiers who have been sacrificed."

"Colleagues, Russia is not under attack. There is only one aggressor here."

Members of the council have repeatedly called on Moscow to withdraw its forces from all of Ukraine, including the regions its has claimed to have annexed.

In a separate show of opposition to Russia’s claims of oppression by Western nations, the U.K. invited Yale University Professor of History Timothy Snyder to brief the council.

"Harm to Russian culture is primarily a matter of Russian policy," Snyder said. "The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine has killed more speakers of Russian than any other action by far."

"There's no comparison," he added. "Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to the mass killing of Russian citizens. Some 200,000 are dead or maimed."

Russian officials have repeatedly claimed that Western nations are aiding Ukraine out of condemnation for Russia and its people, rather than as a response to its invasion of its southwest neighbor over a year ago.

Moscow’s U.N. representative, Vassily Nebenzia, once again pushed this narrative Tuesday in response to comments from the U.K. and it's guest speaker.

Nebenzia also repeated the false claims that Kyiv is headed by "Nazis" and suggested that Russia was not looking to reunite Ukraine with Russia despite having already annexed five of its regions, but rather to oust its leadership.
