Within the thread there is a question of why do this if consequences could have been foreseen by so many intelligent people. The answer as far as I’m concerned is simple. There was a need for this type of conflict because the US was on course for an economic self destruction. Inflation is in, consumer debt is double the average already and this can’t be sustained. Let’s find a scapegoat.

eventually everything will be done for ukraine to prevail.
ukraine made a decision for freedom and democracy and will some day most likely join eu and maybe nato.
the russian army is almost done - while nato hasn't even really started.

ukraine will be rebuilt and russia will pay a big part of it. ukraine will prosper because of good decisions and the right spirit.
meanwhile - if russia moves on like it does - it will most likely end up as some sort of chinese colony filled with poor and rather stupid people (alcoholism, religion ...) who had no chance to leave this desolate country.
these people should start learning the chinese language - and they should start today doing so.
china will exploit russia without mercy. there will come a time with no more oil, gas, ... and then - what? potatoes? vodka?
very bad for russia - it could have achieved a lot of positive things in the last 20+ years - with all the trillions that a criminal gov. and the oligarchs have stolen.
what would russia be today if it would've invested a good part of these funds in democracy, education, research and development, technology, infrastructure, etc.?
russia could/should be a modern, democratic, peaceful and prosperous country with good relations with all its neighbors and the rest of the world.
a criminal "government" decided against it long ago. their fault - their problem.
russia would like to be a superpower - in no way it is (economy, military, ...) - and will never be.
what we see is just once again the dangerous combination of inferiority complex and megalomania.

Could be more fair than Russia, not going to argue, but so many millions of Americans live in poverty, you have reserve currency and have so much debt, it’s phenomenal how much debt you have.
