You have to look at it from the other side as well. Can you imagine what would happen if Russians deployed a nuke, even a small tactical one, and it was a dud?

1. Nukes will deployed not in Ukraine, 2 major candidates are Poland and UK
2. multiple subs with nuclear weapon browse around, no matter how fast Russian will be blown out of existance there is 100% guaranty US will be blown out of existance 1 minute later
I assume you don't have family and have some incurrable illness ans wll die within the next 6-12 months?
I honestly, don't know anyone in right mind who is not dying would risk to provoke Russia for nuclear strike to check if it was a dud or not
As you well know, "provoking" Russia to Putin apparently means fighting back when he invades. So yes, there is no choice but to "provoke".
Since Russia has a pretty good idea, I am sure, of the lack of reliability of their nuclear weapons, it is an enormous risk for them to try to even use a tactical nuke, since if it worked it would cause an enormous retaliation, even if it was conventional, and if it was a dud, it would invite a full strategic nuclear strike on Russia since it would imply that it could not retaliate.

So don't worry about russian nuclear arms. It will do its job
And there will be zero retalliation when Russia decides to nuke Estonia for example
as nobody really cares about Estonia
And even if it was some retaliation strike you would never know about it as you would be long dead

Not necessarily. Those sub commanders know they will be destroyed the moment one of their missiles break the ocean’s surface.
The Russians do have significant nuclear capabilities but they cannot even coordinate air cover and ground operations. A tactical nuclear strike is much more complicated today than just lobbying missiles. The Russians would need to get passed defenses and be prepared for any and all counterattacks - they are not prepared.
Russia is not a super power. If the US or NATO had to engage Russia on any level, whether it’s direct combat up to nuclear engagement, it would not be true mutual destruction. And for the Russians to even be able to have a chance at successful nuclear strikes they would have to attack first and use most of their arsenal, which would of course ensure their complete annihilation.

China does not want a nuclear war, beacuse they would have the consequences if Russia goes nuclear. There will be radio active fall out on China territory from retaliation from the West.
80% of China's export goes to the West, almost nothing goes to Russia. A nuclear war would destroy the Chinese economy.
On top of that China will only have disadvantages from that war, no benefits at all.
If Putin would start a nuclear war, his companionship with China will be lost for ever (just in case that he/we survive that war).
