Russia & Ukraine

I think Vanzandt touched on this. We can't be certain of course what Putin will do next, but being human ourselves, we understand human psychology. If someone in a powerful position, like Biden's, labels Putin "a war criminal", it becomes a potentially serious personal threat. Putin knows very well what happened to the German high command after World War II and what happened to Slobodan Milosevic. We shouldn't do anything that might heighten his desperation. If, in fact, he begins to feel cornered, that he is on the verge of losing the War in Ukraine and with it control of the government, he may become desperate and irrational. We shouldn't want to do anything that might increase the odds of that happening while he is still in charge of the Russian War Machine.. It would have been better, in my opinion, had Biden let others label Putin "a war criminal" and simply pass on the opportunity to do it.

Ok but I don’t see this as a pressing matter, meaning we are not officially pressing the matter. Biden already said he was “speaking from the heart” so I don’t actually think it’s going anywhere.

However, you’re arguing it could apply more pressure to Putin and I kind of like that actually. I am all about hitting this guy from as many angles as possible. I don’t remember him being this vulnerable ever. He has had this reputation of being unshakable and in total control of Russia and as much as we can weaken that, at his age, with pressure I am all for.

There are both sides to the argument. The problem with Joe's comment is the way he handled it. Labeling Putin as a war criminal is a strong card to play and direct shot at him with implications. That does not make it right or wrong but - as usual with Joe- it was like he was cleaning his gun and it went off. First he answered no, then suprise, surprise, he did a 180 and answered yes, as if he didnt understand the question or gave it more thought after he walked away. Too big a card to play in public while acting like you are just beginning to think about it. maybe no, maybe yes type of thing.

Hypothetical example: Joe would you nuke Putin if he uses chemical weapons? No. Oh wait, yes.

Does not have a good look or show command presence in a time of war.

Truth is the first casualty of war, Biden imo should make things as cloudy as possible and if it means talking bs, that's a good thing.

So I never addressed whether it was an error with Vanzandt, I addressed his perceived consequences of Eastern Europe being “fucked” as a result of Biden making the statement.

No(!), I deliberately said "may".

Biden may have just f'd Eastern Europe badly. It was a huge gaff. It was from the hip, of course it's true, but the President of the United States can't be mumbling something like that in a "senior's moment" unless he's ready to act now and plant a missile on top of wherever Putin is staying.
I'm all for tough talk out of a President... but now he personally said those words. Things are gonna escalate. Mark my word.

Reason being, as I pointed out first, as @piezoe pointed out, as @CaptainOvious pointed out, and as dozens of people whose job it is to live in "think tanks" that supposedly have made a lifetime of studying this kind of stuff said:
"You don't poke a wounded animal that is still deadly af unless you're ready to act now and shoot the friggin' thing in the head."

And what is this "Biden already said he spoke from the heart and it's probably not going anywhere"?

Wtf lol?
Dude... he's the President of the United States!

I saw the clip later, and my post above was from this morning.

The initial post was last night.
And this is exactly why I wrote "a senior's moment" in the post above from this morning. I see things for what they are, and yes... it was "from the heart". I could see that.

But that's not the way the world works when it comes to the President of the United States!

Trump said tons of stupid things, but by god he never backed down once on any of them lol.

If you're too senile to maintain situational awareness in front of a dozen reporters while walking to Marine 2.... resign office.

Agree and disagree.
This is a nice opportunity imo to draw Putin in and finish off their military.
Why should the West expend countless billions of dollars on firepower to have it sitting in warehouses.

And you lol...
I just did a quick search. Australia has given $50MM to the cause or 00.0034% of your GDP.
The US has given .011% of our GDP if you include what Trump gave to them.
Over three times as much as a percentage of GDP!!!

So... load up a few dozen Air Koala 747's freighters with some of that firepower you Aussies have "sitting around gathering dust" and put your money where your mouth is Roo.

Hey Principal Vanzandt, let us know when we have to hide under our desks.

Hey RRY... don't you have a beach somewhere to cry about?

SANTA BARBARA — In a major victory for coastal advocates, a Santa Barbara judge refused to approve a controversial deal that would have allowed access to Hollister Ranch’s coastline only to landowners, their guests, visitors with guides, and those who could boat or paddle in from two miles away.

The settlement agreement, struck between the ranch and coastal officials behind closed doors, sparked public outrage last year after the Los Angeles Times published

You'd never make it as a serial killer. You're way too easy to profile.
