Russia & Ukraine

Russia has a form letter template for invasions, on the left 2008 Georgia and on the right 2022 Ukraine:

None of them are going to be eating many peanut butter sandwiches.

They put big bucks in those accounts mostly to lead the russian government and the americans to believe that that is where their big bucks are.

Meanwhile, you may recall - my memory is a little fuzzy here- that there was the leak of clients who worked with that Panama law firm or financial firm or something. Almost all of Putin's immediate buddies had accounts there. These guys most definitely do not put all their eggs in one basket. They have dozens of accounts like that around the world.

I am in favor of heavy duty sanctions but they are mostly like kicking the dog. Sanctions go on. Putin keeps any territory he keeps. Sanctions get lifted down the road. Putin still keeps the territory. Putin rolling in the cash when he drive the price of oil and gas up.

Where Putin will have near term trouble is with the Iranians. Putin is a snake and the Iranians are snakes and they work together, except when it is not in their interest they will knife each other. You might say that they are ...errr...well.....snakes.

The Iranians have died and gone to heaven because Biden and Putin sanctions have made the US suddenly even more dependent on foreign oil RIGHT WHILE ANOTHER NUKE DEAL IS BEING NEGOTIATED. Let's just say that the Iranians are going to get a Saaaaaaaaaaaaweet deal and their sanctions will be lifted soon.......and they sitting on a pile of oil THAT IS ALREADY IN STORAGE. They are about to become a YUGE beneficiary of this flap with their buddy Vlad. But, hey, nothing personal, just bidness.

It's further down the road, but Biden will wake up some morning with a boner for talking with Venezuela too.

And earlier today there's this:

BEIJING/TAIPEI, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Taiwan is "not Ukraine" and has always been an inalienable part of China, China's foreign ministry said on Wednesday, as Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen called for the island to beef up vigilance on military activities in response to the crisis.

The comments come after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson flagged the risk for Taiwan in a warning last week about the damaging worldwide consequences if Western nations failed to fulfil their promises to support Ukraine's independence. read more

The lack of respect for Biden is becoming a case of elderly abuse

Chinese news media posted instructions to social platforms about how to approach coverage on Ukraine, including a note of China’s need for Russian "support" with Taiwan.

One outlet appeared to accidentally post guidelines on what should and should not be published, while an editor from another outlet weighed in with guidance on language and approaches that he believed necessary in walking a fine line.

Ming Jinwei, senior editor at Xinhua News Agency, wrote in his WeChat blog about how his outlet needed to walk a tight line on its Ukraine coverage, noting that China "has to back Russia up with emotional and moral support while refraining from treading on the toes of the United States and European Union."

"In the future, China will also need Russia’s understanding and support when wrestling with America to solve the Taiwan issue once and for all," his post read. Ming said that it "doesn’t hurt" to use moderately pro-Russia language

US is reporting Russia is ready to go for full scale invasion that includes ten landing ships in the Black Sea with troops on board…

How will Putin play this? Start with an air campaign I suppose then staged invasion or simultaneous invasion. I’d say stages because the Ukrainians would be less likely to fully unload. Although staging it out can be dangerous for Russia and the Ukrainians could have a chance to fight off waves. None the less, we are the inflection point. I still say watch for cell signals to go down as the tell tale sign.

From our side of things, we could end up in a cyber world war. We all the allies are going to want to support Ukraine with intelligence and strategy and the Russians are going to want to thwart that and that can lead to a tit for tat involving multiple countries…
