Russia & Ukraine

I'm not claiming that at all. I'm claiming the word the WSJ used (which is in your post) is "suspected" poisoning. And you're stating it as a certainty.

This type of language, 'highly probable' etc., is commonly used, and the more it is repeated, the more the average reader starts to believe in what he read as being fact.

He didn't even say highly probable in the original. He stated it as fact. "Russians poisoned Ukrainians at Peace Talks".

He's a sensationalist. Not interested in truth, only narrative. That's why so many of his shrieking posts end up being thrown back in his face.

So who else are you going to claim poisoned them.

Of I know... the Russian propagandists will shortly claim they poisoned themselves. Let's start a count down until this is pushed by the Kremlin lovers 3, 2, 1...

I dunno. Maybe they weren't poisoned and its a rumor. Or a stunt. Or they ate bad guacamole. The point is that you are often wrong, but never in doubt.

If there was any way to believe that this was a valid and fair vote that went u nmanipulated by Putin as he does in his own election then the people of Crimea can freely choose to be part of Russia if that is what they want.

Big IF there and the idea of a fair vote in Ukraine where Russians control through military the eastern portion of the country is ridiculous.
It was something like "secede now or secede later". Ran by the Kremlin of course. GWB spouting the usual BS

Notice all those Russian oligarchs crying over assets frozen..even as a Chelsea fan...not one once of sympathy over Roman Abramovich losing his team....

not one of these wealthy pussies has condemned the invasion and killing of Ukrainians.... let them suffer as well
Billionaire Abramovich, Ukrainian peace negotiators hit by suspected poisoning - reports

March 28 (Reuters) - Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian peace negotiators suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning earlier this month after a meeting in Kyiv, the Wall Street Journal and the investigative outlet Bellingcat reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Abramovich, who accepted a Ukrainian request to help negotiate an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and at least two senior members of the Ukrainian team, were affected, the WSJ report said.

Ukrainian officials poured cold water on the report. Asked about the suspected poisoning, Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak said "there is a lot of speculation, various conspiracy theories". Rustem Umerov, another member of the negotiating team, urged people not to trust "unverified information".

The Kremlin did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

According to the WSJ report, Abramovich and the negotiators showed symptoms that included red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands.

Abramovich and the Ukrainian negotiators, including Crimean Tatar lawmaker Umerov, have since improved and their lives are not in danger, WSJ reported.

A person familiar with the matter confirmed the incident to Reuters but said Abramovich had not allowed it to stop him working.

Bellingcat said experts who examined the incident concluded "poisoning with an undefined chemical weapon" was the most likely cause.

Citing the experts, Bellingcat said the dosage and type of toxin used was not enough to be life-threatening, "and most likely was intended to scare the victims as opposed to cause permanent damage. The victims said they were not aware of who might have had an interest in an attack."

My comment will not be well received by some but in a civilized world, even if it were a fair vote and the majority wanted to join Russia, that is not necessarily the determining factor.

The sovereignty of the entire country belongs to the entire people of that country- in any country- not just to a local region. The local wishes always being worthy of consideration and weight in any country.

Suppose, for example, an absurd one at that, the separatist movement in Vermont were able achieve a majority vote, and voted for secede and join Canada (nevermind that they have never talked to Canada) then, not so fast Sparky, this a nation.

Sometimes changes are made over time and it is not wrong if approached in a civilized kind of way. Occupying with Russian troops and lobbing shells in there is not an example of such.

You know those new measures the Russian Central Bank instituted a while ago where people or companies with foreign currency accounts could only take $10K total from them in currency, and the rest would have to be in rubles? The Central Bank just announced that until Sept 9th no withdrawals in foreign currency are allowed at all.

Russia plans a ‘Korean scenario’ for Ukraine: Intelligence chief
Ukraine’s military intelligence chief says Russia will try to divide Ukraine into two separate regions as the Russian advance on Kyiv stalls.

Russia is considering “a Korean scenario” for Ukraine and splitting the country in two after failing to seize the capital Kyiv and overthrow its government, the Ukrainian military intelligence chief has said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin “will try to impose a dividing line between the unoccupied and occupied regions of our country”, General Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ministry of Defence’s Intelligence Directorate, said on Sunday as reported by the ministry’s Telegram account.

“It is an attempt to create North and South Korea in Ukraine. After all, he is definitely not in a position to swallow the whole country,” Budanov said.

The two Koreas are still technically at war after a 1950-53 conflict ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty, sealing the division of their peninsula with an impenetrable border. Their border is a 4km (2.4-mile) wide by 248km (154-mile) long area known as the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ).

After more than four weeks of conflict, Russia has failed to seize any major Ukrainian city, and Moscow signalled on Friday that it was scaling back its ambitions to focus on securing the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian army for the past eight years.

“The occupiers will try to unite the occupied territories into a single quasi-state entity, which will oppose independent Ukraine,” said Budanov, the intelligence chief. “We are already seeing attempts to create ‘parallel’ authorities in the occupied territories and force people to give up the Ukrainian currency.”

A local leader in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic said the region could soon hold a referendum on joining Russia, just as happened in Crimea after Russia seized the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014.

Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to break with Ukraine and join Russia – a vote that much of the world refused to recognise.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson also dismissed talk of any referendum in eastern Ukraine. “All fake referendums in the temporarily occupied territories are null and void and will have no legal validity,” Oleg Nikolenko told the news agency Reuters.

Budanov also said Russia was trying to install a land corridor to Crimea, but the plan had been so far prevented by Russia’s failure to capture the port city of Mariupol. The city on the Sea of Azov has been encircled by Russian troops for more than three weeks and faced relentless bombardment, but Mariupol authorities last week rejected an ultimatum from Russian forces for the city’s defenders to lay down their arms.

The already have a "Korean" scenario in progress.

Russia has become the new North Korea and Ukraine wishes to proceed towards becoming new South Korea. (better economy but you keep the corruption ).
