I completely understand, does not constitute approval, of why this is happening. What I fail to understand is how silly or naive or both most posters here are. Russia does not view NATO as a defensive organisation, surely you can get that part. If NATO, call it OTAN, was to be positioned in Mexico, there would be an invasion of Mexico by the US. This is undeniable, if you do deny this, then you’re basically a total tool. I refuse to accept that folks in charge of NATO’s strategic development were not aware of this, therefore it was a provocation that led to this. Again, I do not approve of what’s going on, but it is what it is and your country/ies would not have acted any differently.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO, was rejected from NATO membership several times, and was not in any serious consideration for membership into NATO in the foreseeable future. Finland on the other hand....why not invade Finland?

I don’t believe that.

As far as Finland is concerned, that is a whole different situation. Saying that, I have no idea if Russians will go for Finland too, probably unlikely now that they have been accepted into NATO.

Yep. Ukraine was, is and will be the most corrupt place in Europe next to Russia itself. Even the Romanians see Ukraine as a whole other level. There is simply no way they could have joined Nato especially with the lessons learned from Hungary slipping back to strong man worship ringing in everyone's ears.
