I might be better to describe the current situation as an "interdependence" rather than as a dependence. It is this interdependence that is in the process of changing. But still, they are dependent on Russian commodities

Wars like that started by Russia in Ukraine have a way of realigning nations. There are many sources of commodities needed to support the modern democratic nations high standards of living. Alternative sources will take some time to be developed to the point they can replace Russian sources. That's in progress. Just as the Trump tariffs caused a permanent loss of some U.S. soybean markets to South American, the war in Ukraine will cause a permanent loss of some Russian commodity markets. The world is awash in oil and will become even more awash with the shift to electric vehicles and to nuclear, solar and wind energy. It will take time to re-align markets. The re-alignment is in progress.
There was a brief hiatus when Western nations thought Russia was changing; it turns out the Western Nations were wrong.
Any thought that Russia is the equal of any of the worlds great democracies is delusional. For example, compare the living standards in any of the Western European country to those of the typical Russian. Russia will never be equal until Russians have to right to criticize their government without being arrested.its international policy doesn't have any option to treat Russia as equal

You have assumed the U.S. has powers it does not. Russians have an inferiority complex for a very good reason. Their government IS inferior.
This is the attitude of tyrants. It is impossible to earn true respect by pointing a gun at someone. Putin's childish threat to use nuclear weapons is just one of the many reasons he gets no respect. The West does not expect him to use nuclear weapons unless he is truly insane. In that case, it is naturally assumed the Russian military would stop him. The use of a nuclear weapon to attack any NATO country, would prove disastrous for Russia.Nuclear power deserves to be equal.
In democratic countries, a demented President, does not cause the government to stop working as usual. The President serves at the pleasure of various governmental bodies that have the power to remove him, as do the people. It's a messy process, as are all democratic processes, but the process is there if needed. Also having demented person as a president cannot be a sign of superiority.

What did those U.S. numbers look like only 4 months into the Vietnam conflict?Russian bombing of Ukraine is like a picnic compared to the US bombing of Vietnam
"The Vietnam War still holds the record for the war with the most bombs thrown in the history of the world. The total number of bombs that the US aircraft dropped on Vietnam was 7.85 million tons, nearly 3 times the total number of bombs that all countries used in World War II and the destructive power of 250 atom bombs that the US threw on Hiroshima. On average, each Vietnamese person at that time suffered about 250 kg of bombs dropped from US aircraft. That is not to mention 7.5 million tons of ammunition used by the US on the ground (including grenades, mines, explosives, artillery shells of all kinds) and 45,260 tons (about 75 million liters) of toxic chemicals by the US. sprayed on the country of Vietnam"

Common, this is what US does in the last forever. They just point gun to everyones head who doesn't follow their rules
You just accepted the USA is a tyrant
Russia's response is extremely gentle and benign to this point given the USA is totally lawless bully without any brakes. Likely because Putin is quite experienced and moderate politician, But at some point it may change. Don't expect someone who come after Putin will be so moderate
It's quite obvious US tries to corner Russia into using nuclear weapon. Totally insane policy.
Hoping Russia will strike some eastern european muppet and not directly US.
Maybe if you had president who is not demented he would understood what diaster US brings to Europe by forcing Russia into corner and did something about it.
Unfrtunatelly US comic democracy is totally disfunctional
