Trust me, Bob. I'm fully aware that there are plenty of options available to the bad guys, but I have been trying to address the security issues as they relate to the topic of the thread: the boycott of airlines because of the current TSA standards for security.
As I said earlier, the pat search is a very effective tool to use in the prevention of contraband. Do I like this? No. Is it necessary? I think so. It is a cost effective way that is proven to aid in situations where security is of paramount importance.
When a panel of experts/authorities have to make decisions in regards to security, considerations must be given to effectiveness and costs to implement and maintain the chosen approach.
How much security do the American people desire? We'll see. Apparently, this is going to take some time to get sorted out. Very controversial issue.
When the hollering/name calling begins (as per usual) here on ET, people tend to lose good analytical thought and judgment. Fortunately these are not the types who will make the final decisions on this matter.
The main objective for airport security is to prevent the bad guys from doing what they once did to us, regardless of whether people, at least in the beginning, are not comfortable with the decisions that will be made.
