Quote from jem:
that is silly and lets not forget he is leading in the polls with real metrics.
Do evangelicals want a guy whose adminstration is openly hostile to Churches or not? He ordered Catholic Church (and therefore evangelical churches and institutions) to hand out drugs which abort babies. And Romney pointed out that Obama's team even was stopped in court from demanding a say in who is qualified to be a minister at a church.
He is not going to do this unless he has to, but he as all the ammo he needs to really engage the evangelical base in a powerful way.
You think Rove can't figure out how to drive that vote?
Regarding advanced degrees... no one engages those with advanced degrees on this economy more than Romney. The guys knows what he is talking about. Those independents with advanced degrees... swing those back to Romneys column unless they are minorities.
People with advanced degrees are looking at the first really competent experienced guy to run for President in a long time. All we have had is politicans and community organizers.
We hope he is the blueprint for the future.
from wikipedia
He received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, and then earned a joint JD and MBA from Harvard University. Romney entered the management consulting business, which led to a position at Bain & Company. Eventually serving as CEO, Romney brought the company out of crisis. He was co-founder and head of the spin-off company Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm that became highly profitable and one of the largest such firms in the nation. His wealth helped fund most of his future political campaigns. Active in his church, he served as ward bishop and later stake president in his area. He ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, losing to long-time incumbent Ted Kennedy. Romney organized and steered the 2002 Winter Olympics as head of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, and helped turn the troubled games into a financial success.

If Romney plays his cards right and picks the right running mate...
Obama's only chance is to bring Hillary on the ticket. Without that Romney rolls to an easy victory. You guys are buying into the liberal media distortions. When Obama went after the Catholic Church he lost the election. I know evangelicals... they will be voting for Obama along with a whole boatloads of Catholics who had voted for Obama. I guarantee it.
That is not a deep analysis of US presidential elections. If you can't energize your base, you are fucked. It is that simple. Nobody is going to be excited to vote for Romney save for his family. He has been the weakest frontrunner by far in recent memory. He almost lost the state he was born in and where his father was governor to a laughable joke of a candidate. Only reason Romney carried Ohio, Michigan, etc is because of 5:1 or more spending advantage. Regardless of how Obama's fundraising goes Romney won't have 5:1 or 10:1 spending advantage.
Fact of the matter is, Romney is a 3rd rate politician. He does not connect with voters, looks stiff, bland, boring, has zero charisma. Americans don't vote for robots or corpses for president.
Romney has been a classical private equity businessman. I don't know about you, but I don't want a country run like a leveraged buyout.
As to evangelical voters, Obama is the status quo. Evangelicals look at Mormonism as a cult. Between Obama vs unknown, Obama is better. Mitt Romney is an active supporter of Mormon church. He gave it millions of dollars, and vast numbers of evangelicals do NOT want to see it expand.
