I don't think anyone is arguing that resisting arrest is or should be an automatic death sentence, or even justifies the use of deadly force by police in all cases, but it damn sure increases the likelihood of getting shot. Best not to resist at all, and in the clear cut cases of zero resistance and total compliance where the cop then abused the authority given to them, fry the cop.
There are two points I'm trying to make. One, we've got this ambiguous umbrella term of "resisting arrest" that makes no distinction in instances when the officer's life is in danger which would justify deadly force (we're supposed to believe every resistance is just that) And two, until video evidence, we went by the cops' testimony or post-shooting evidence.
Both of those points make the statistic of "got shot for resisting" murky.
I'm glad we've got body cams now, but it needs to go further, they need to be federally mandated, tamperproof, and cops shouldn't get to decide when they record or stop recording. Even in the Chicago shooting the cops POV wasn't enough to clear him.

Define resisting arrest because cops can call anything you do whether it is wihtin your constitutional rights or not as resisting arrest in many cases.
Running away from a cop can be considered resisting arrest and you can get shot and killed for something that is a misdemeanor.
refusing to be arrested for a bullshit charge can be considered resisting arrest and you can be thrown down to the ground or shot....
I am tired of this "Just listen and comply when Toledo was told to stop and show the cop his hands and still got shot. Or when the health care worker is on the ground with his hands up and the fucktard shoots him in the leg for no reasons and gets away with it. What about the cop that told the innocent guy to crawl on the floor to him and still shot him point blank.
Sorry... but cops no longer get the benefit of the doubt. Do you know how many Blacks were killed in prison under the claim trying to escape (on his word because the guy is dead). reminds me of South Africa where the list of Black pirsoners who died were released and many said "Suicide" or "Attempt to Escape".
You guys are missing my point. I'm not saying there is an absolute definition of resisting arrest where a cop can have a justified shoot, and that is a problem. I'm saying if you resist you have just elevated the risk of being shot. The best way to manage that risk is to not resist at all. Even then, as with all things, there is no such thing as risk free, but your odds can be improved.

Fact: Criminals commit crimes, and resist arrest, period. Not in dispute.
We employ police to deal with criminals and resistance in a professional manner. Crimes and resistance should not be a surprise to anyone. It's the norm. It goes with the job.
Duh: If you don't commit crimes, you are less likely to be a victim of brutality.
Duh: If you don't resist, you are less likely to be a victim.
Duh: If you don't cross the street, you're less likely to be killed by a car.
But until we can find a way to prevent all crimes, and/or all resistance, we pay officers to be above the mentality of the thugs we want them to arrest.
