Research has shown that the requirements for life are so complex that chance and even billions of years could not have produced them. Spontaneous generation (the emergence of life from inorganic materials) has never been observed.

please do not accuse me of lacking basic scientific understanding. you seem to have the same fanatic fervor of the zealots that you despise.

Evolution IS regarded as fact by the scientific community.
The theists are simply trying to dodge all the problems
that daniel has pointed out, by side stepping the entire
issue and attacking evolution instead.
Evolution is NOT the subject of this debate.
Attacking it does not strengthen the theist position at all.
The theists have also made it very clear that they dont
have a clue about evolution.
If they had read a SINGLE up to date book on the subject,
they would not have made such ignorant statements.
Its not even worth attempting to debate evolution with
these theists since it would first require you to EDUCATE
them on the current state of evolution, which would take
a lot of time and IS OFF SUBJECT.
