I went back and looked on the day Scalia died. (chart below)
It would appear the market didn't react. And mind you, for the next few days no one knew Obama wouldn't get his appointment so one would have to assume the market was indifferent to the idea of a liberal judge replacing a conservative.
Now, I know what you mean about uncertainty, but I think that was priced in anyway. Everyone knows were heading for a clusterfuck in November.
As it stands now, if we get a big gap down at the open Sunday night, I'd say buy the dip.

Just yesterday I saw a tee shirt in the middle of commievillage that said: ELECT TRUMP SO WE CAN SEE THE LIBERALS CRY AGAIN.
If that is not a reason to go out and vote, I don't know what is.

I think Mike Lee would be his preferred appointment but it is problematic moving senators over to the court because the senate is in such rough shape. Both Texas and Utah are a little shakey these days. Not sure you can assume that if you move a republican over to the court that you can backfill with a republican.
Maybe the dems will appoint mitt romney. You dont have to be a lawyer. Little joke there. And you don't have to be a citizen or native born either to be on the court, so an illegal would work fine for them too.
Trump will appoint a woman anyway. Or rather, he will start there. If she is not confirmed then maybe a man on round two. The dems are hoping it will be Amy Barrett because they have been doing oppo research on her for four years and they do not want that to go to waste.

She is a conservative Catholic who has said that she believes that life begins at conception and has suggested that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. Barrett, the Washington Post reported, “said the framework of Roe had ‘essentially permitted abortion on demand’ and ‘recognizes no state interest in the life of a fetus,’ according to news accounts including an article in Notre Dame Magazine in 2013.” Though she’s Catholic, her nomination would appeal to Trump’s evangelical base: giving her Ginsburg’s seat would be the ultimate thumb-in-the-eye to the women’s movement championed by the late justice.

The dems want her named right off too so that they can use it for the campaign.
If Trump and company chose another woman instead, that would be less predictable and probably more fun. What will the dems do then after having invested millions and years in planning their attack on Amy.
Joan Larsen is a possibility.
