Just printed out my November statements. I stopped my losing skid in a big way. Not only did I have a winning month, my YTD% went from a -1.36% to a +12.45%. One more month to go baby, come on!

Quote from BSAM:

Year of the day: 1941.

Yeah, gotta remember that day.

Growing up, most dads were veterans of WWII and/or Korea. My Dad served in both wars. WWII loomed large in our psyches because the older generation had all been affected by it; and they all had their stories.

They all remembered where they were when they heard about Pearl Harbor and they all remembered VE and VJ days. Most of that generation is gone now.

Many today don't realize just how scary those times were. On Dec. 7, 1941, the Germans were at the gates of Moscow and looked unstoppable. They had yet to experience a serious defeat. Now the Japanese were embarking on their series of early victories.

Hindsight tells us how it turned out. At that time it wasn't clear that we could win.

That's what I remember hearing too - when we went to war against Japan, we were not sure that we could win. Japan in fact had a much superior navy. However, we threw everything we had at them, and within 4 years we incinerated them and forced them to the table to sign a surrender agreement. Fast forward to today, and we're still messing around in Afghanistan, a third world country that didn't even really have an army, for ten friggin years now. It's disheartening how much we've declined. We can't even get into space anymore without hitching a ride with the Russians.

Fuck I need another drink.
