Racism on ET

Toronto is like any other large North American city - overrun by immigrants. The core is wealthy with smaller rich enclaves dotted inside a mostly poor, run-down sprawling urban area. Whites are now a minority in Toronto, with Canadian-born Whites definitely the minority. Brampton, a suburb of Toronto (where I grew up), being predominately a White working-class town is now dominantly Indian and Black (pop >500k). The whole GTA has gone to shit. It's not enough poverty is common, but now throw in masses of third-world immigrants, most of whom speak broken English with no skills to speak of, and it's a real "melting pot". Even my buddy who is Indian (a Doctor) is totally against our immigration policy. We let in so much trash and the trash just take over.

I'm all for the immigration of skilled, rich and academics. Bring over 10,000 black PhD's and we'll have a better Canada overnight. Bring in 10,000 Nigerians, OTOH.....

What a load of bs, laced with ethnic based bigotry. Who the hell cares how many "Whites" are in the city, its irrelevant. Do you really not understand what is wrong with your views and how you describe them ?

I don't get why he's ok with 10k "black" PhDs, but not 10k Nigerians. Some Nigerians are "black" and have PhDs. We have several Nigerians working for us, engineers mainly, and while they're not PhDs, they are pretty "dark skinned". ; )

I think he is implying the 10,000 Nigerians would simply be poor and uneducated, thus their impact to (wherever) would be substantially more negative than 10,000 PhD's from wherever.

And that's what happens when you think using simple labels like "black" and "white", you fail the Venn Diagram test.

Perhaps. But the funny thing about stereotypes are that they are accurate more often than not. Most people go with the generalizations.

In other words, you are making a distinction between blacks and the n******.

I don't think they are accurate most of the time, but even so, he got all screwed up in his thinking and trying to make a point about quality by including labels that are too often, certainly from the perspective of an individual, incorrect and unjust.
