Put a Pencil in Your Mouth...

I dont think its a waste.....but if one is put off by the 'spirituality' aspect of it, they had probably better be pretty good at alternative solutions. I was more wondering if there are alternatives....or maybe they are simply pretty much all one and the same thing.

As for behaviour modifications - I too think they can be pretty easy to achieve, and can be relatively quick, the hard part is working out what exactly you are trying to change, and the best way to do it without unforeseen consequences. The jail example is a classic - it is a behaviour modification experiment. You have to adapt quickly if inside, and then this behaviour does not translate well to the outside again....unless done in a different way jail seems pretty much a poor solution for many.

In order to change deep seated beliefs - much the same - you need to understand which ones cause problems....or if they cause problems at all.

There are flotation tanks. There is biofeedback. There is therapy.

I'm not an expert on meditation. I would suggest that there are many different versions of the same thing. If you were to choose a method I would go with the one that most naturally appeals to you. Some people respond to giving over to a higher power, some like have a teacher, some like ritual, some like discipline etc. Pick the one you will do.

Enlightenment is the end of suffering is the simple definition of the Buddha. But what's left when there is no suffering. He is silent on that, implying that you will have to find out for yourself .....

I think the experience of attainment of self-realization or whatever you want to label it is beyond words. I also believe the Buddha didn't want people chasing an experience - hard to be in the moment when you are thinking about the "goal"; even harder when the moment is the goal.

I am sleeping lighter and lighter and I think it is due to my cortisol level.

Good stuff, thanks for posting.

I find taking magnesium helps me sleep more deeply. Where I am they sell something called "Natural Calm" which is magnesium citrate.

Great idea, G.G.

My only question is, if behavior is a by product of our thoughts, then do we need to dig deeper?
i know there is a lot of psyche memories beliefs in everyone's head, but there is also a lot chemical over under production and neurotransmitters, which can change or dominate a persons moods...google norepinephrine

Can you give examples of this in wide areas - including trading?

Hey SS

(may come off as controversial – not meant to be)

In general

Any war ever fought
9/11 (both sides)
The holocaust
Pick a religion

===========

Trading specific

In a losing trade – and every tick move in one's favor – they build a case for holding out longer
Arguing trading consistently – is impossible
How many can say – deep down inside – still resides the notion someone "knows"
Anyone trading their opinion – then attempting to justify it – win / lose / or draw
Any act from a trader.., in defiance of what price is doing (assuming one is trading directionally)

Just a few examples Sir

If thought then emotion then chemical release then mood.

Chicken and egg thing.

Assuming one is healthy (ha ha), what comes first? I have always assumed my thoughts were the origin.

DB (and others) keeps pounding away that the market doesn't know you exist, along with the lines and blah, blah, blah that we draw. There is a lot of truth in that statement outside of trading, I am finally beginning to realize.

Finally beginning to question all of my ideas and assumptions about my experience in this world.

Its almost like you have to get out of your head to look in your head.
