Public decapitation of Libyan soldier as crowd cheers

I don't know if this guy is guilty of any heinous crime, but the Libyan attitude to crime and punishment seems to be a lot healthier than ours here in America.

If every mass murder in America was subjected to public humiliation before having his head snapped off with a kitchen knife, people (especially crime prone minorities) would think twice before going on a killing spree.

One of the advantages of the death penalty is that it scares people. But if executions are carried out far from the public's sight and "humanely", no one cares. People need to be constantly reminded that life is a precious good that can be taken away brutally if they misbehave.

Was there anyone there NOT holding a cell phone and recording this? You could see at the end its really hard to cut someones head off while holding a cell phone.

DETERRENCE

The fourth in a series on death penalty issues (see also DPIC podcasts)

It might seem that the prospect of receiving a death sentence would deter would-be murderers from committing such offenses. However, many studies on deterrence and the death penalty do not support this idea, nor does the rate of murders in states with the death penalty. The murder rate in states that do not have the death penalty is consistently lower than in states with the death penalty. The South, which carries out over 80% of the executions in the U. S., has the highest murder rate of the four regions. Read More

Criminologists report that the death penalty does not deter murder

A recent study published in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology reported that 88% of the country’s top criminologists surveyed do not believe the death penalty acts as a deterrent to homicide. Eighty-seven percent of them think that the abolition of the death penalty would not have a significant effect on murder rates and 77% believe that “debates about the death penalty distract Congress and state legislatures from focusing on real solutions to crime problems.” (M. Radelet and T. Lacock, DO EXECUTIONS LOWER HOMICIDE RATES?: THE VIEWS OF LEADING CRIMINOLOGISTS, 99 Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology 489 2009) Read More

You're right of course, but countering every idiotic view expressed here is more than a full time job. This forum is is a magnet for wacko conspiracists, racists, separatists, bigots, ignoramuses, intellectual derelicts, and utter miscreants.

On the contrary, it has an absolute 100% success rate. There have been zero instances of a criminal returning from the grave to commit additional crimes. 100% of those put to death are completely crime free forever. Not a speeding ticket, not an cuss word in front of little old ladies, not jay walking, not spitting on the sidewalk, nothing! There are not many absolute guarantees in life, but this is one of them.
