Quote from mattjclark:

OK Dude, why does there have to be something to do the knowing? Isn't it possible that, that something doesn't exist (especially in light of the fact that you can't "know").

because matt, by saying that it is a 'fact' that you can't "know", you are making a knowledge claim! therefore, there MUST be something in existance...

honestly, you are being pretty arrogant with your confidence in the "you cant' know anything" line. you don't have to 'believe' my line of argument, although you have certainly in no way refuted it.

I'll make you a deal. If you can answer the second part of my quote (about knowing by deduction). I will concede on this point; however, I must warn you I will not stick around this discussion long enough for you to develop a satisfactory answer to that question.

I have one last question for you. If your knowledge comes from "knowing by deduction", how do you know that "knowing by deduction" is really knowing.

i would ask the same thing to you: how do you "know" that we cannot not "know" anything if not by deduction?

Good point, I don't, because I don't know anything.

oh, so you aren't REALLY sure that we can't know anything then?

it's not an immutable 'fact' of reality then?

that would make it possible to know something... COOL! :)

But we still don't know if "knowledge by deduction" is really knowing. Furthermore, we don't know what knowing is.

That would be why I said if you could answer my question that I would concede that it is not a "fact".

Yes, provided we knew what "knowing" was and we as humans knew that "knowing" was within our capabilities, it would seem to be possible to know something. unfortunately we still don't know what knowing is.

I now know (or believe to have knowledge in this case) what its like to be a computer caught in an infinite loop.
