Quote from cmaxb:
I didn't say fantasy is bad. As long as you see it for what it is. The world is a very depressing place. We are depressed ourselves. We need promises. Something that gives us hope. I see much of your philosophy is Platonic. You make your own reality. If you change your perceptive organs, you will change your reality. I'm afraid it is not that simple. But we all need comfort. There is another way, which examines how we raise children. How we ruin them.
Yes, I appreciated Plato's parable of the "Cave".
The concept of individual souls has been reinforced
by eons of repetition over time.
Likewise, the idea of the world as real and solid has been
hypnotically induced by relentless psychololgical suggestion.
So the dispelling of this mind-trick may not come overnight.
Everyone is free to leave the cave, but for mental blocks.
Let us not underestimate the power of the mind.
Hypnotists are able to blind the eyes to the presence of
certain objects in the room.
This shows that it is not the eyeballs which see,
but rather the filters set up in the mind.
The "reality" of the world is seen through a powerful mind-filter.
When the hypnotic spell is dispelled,
it is clearly seen that the mind-filters blinded the vision of reality.
You can take comfort in the fact that what the eyeballs see is not real,
and the real Self cannot be harmed.
Children symbolize a mind that is already "ruined",
whose self-awareness has been severely restricted
by the imposition of the concept of guilt.
Children represent aspects of mind which have denied reality,
forcing the experience of an alternative existence.
Childbirth, you have to admit, is rather strange.
What, but a dream, gives birth to strange circumstances?
The problem is simply...
People underestimate the power of mind...their own minds.
They have long forgotten what the mind is capable of.
Bodily existence is an outpicturing of mental processes.
Everything in form is a symbol of subconscious beliefs.
It's simple, but seriously resisted by minds so long trapped in flesh.
Identifying as flesh weakens the mind, that is, the awareness of it's power.
It's power is constant and unmitigated at all times.
It entraps itself when true and false are held in mind without distinction.
