Poker and the Beginning Trader

I'll teach anyone about poker if you can teach me about trading.
Trust me I play everyday and have read many books on it and watch it everyime it's on T.V

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's all about execution, isn't it? Detachment in a certain sense.

Let us know how things proceed. I know what you mean about feeling scared when you move up to those bigger tables. You absolutely must have a 400 big bet bankroll ($2400 for the 3/6) IMO. Otherwise you are thinking about the money and that will be fatal.

party poker has by far the best games. it's not even close. the software may not be the best (though i don't have a problem with it), but who cares? you need bad players to make money and party poker has boatloads more than all of the other sites combined.

i play on ultimatebet.com also, because they have higher stakes NL games than party.
 
Any of you guys ever read Katy Lederer's autobiography Poker Face? Fairly interesting book, touches upon her brother Howard and sister Annie's early years and their rise to poker stardom, and her own failed attempt to fit into the gambling life.

I bring this up because by the end of the book, it seems like Katy has given up on the Vegas lifestyle for a career in writing, but then in the postscript it mentions that she now works for a "proprietary trading firm" in NYC -- thought that was an interesting twist. :)

Yep. Trading and blackjack are battles against yourself. Poker is a battle against yourself + a battle against moving targets that shoot back.
 
Any of you guys play NL ring games, either online or in cardrooms? Is the money made in playing loose/aggressive, taking down blinds and bullying weak-tighties, or is it a patience game of waiting for a set or better then hoping for callers when u push in?

the latter. I play NL poker at several tables in my home town, almost nightly. Watch "Rounders" and note the way people talk about Joey Knish's playing (John Turturro). You bide your time, let the other guys pick off blinds and whatever, and make a killing every few hours. I only wish my trading equity curve was as good as my poker curve =/
