What a load of old rubbish. Modern science, and in particular physics is in many ways completely at odds with common sense. Most people accept Einsteins theory of relativity, not because they understand it or because it follows common sense or "can be seen by any reasonable man", but because they have a belief that scientists abiding by sound scientific methods have good evidence for it. And peer review is part of those methods.

And if you think relativity is hard to get your head around, how about quantum physics. I'd suggest that a fair percentage of the population wouldn't have a clue about it, but those who know what it is accept it because of their belief in science, not because it rings some sort of bell.

Which is why science needs high standards including peer review.

1. Not all reasonable men are sufficiently trained to assess the technical nuances of whatever is presented to them. Without a proper means of assessment, there would be far more and lengthier trips down blind alleys. Progress would be that much more time-consuming. A trading system without adequate filtering would fall prey to all manner of noise.

I get it. People watch Peyton Manning throw the ball and are in awe. People listen to Eric Clapton throw down a lick and think he is a god. People watched Tiger Woods win a golf match and elevated him to some special person...

So people who can't do something in particular think someone who can is a superior human being?

Scientists put their pants on one leg at a time, their shit stinks, they are not above corruption or ego, they make mistakes, and in no way could a peer review produce a scientific fact any more than a bunch of fashion "experts" know what people should be wearing this spring based on the winter fashions shows in Paris.

Why don't the resident atheistic scientist bone heads just admit they swapped their faith in a preacher in their church as a child for the same blind faith in some bloody scientist's musings...
