The Hebrew word [hayah] here is translated [was]. Which may or may not be the best interpretation. The word is not tense specific, and the same word in other verses is translated as shall be, be, is, had been, ect... Another interpretation for the verse is the earth [became] without form ( at some point in time after the initial creation ).
This would fit with the concept of God creating perfection, as the Universe was initially created perfect as then was altered or changed from it's original state.
In this light the earth and universe could be any age, with God recreating or making the Earth ready for man in the following verse. Here the text would be interpreted as a literal 6 day transformation from the fallen state.

That being said, the lack of intermediary species is problematic, on an objective basis-largely, because fossils tend to be buried under millions of years of dirt, so unless someone is going to mine the planet for fossils, (unlikely) these things could well remain a mystery for some time.

Teenage pregnancy is not caused by God. (except for that one time 2000 years ago with Mary) Teen pregnancy is caused by sex, not God.
Just like God promised that eatting the fruit of the tree of knowledge would cause death(all those things you named above) he also promised Life to those that believed and repented.
