People with disabilities awaiting SSDI benefits

Quote from denner:

One of the bigger problems is that we have so much damn fraud in the system that the truly disabled get f'd by the number of perma-fraudsters that look for any scheme they can think of to get on the government dole.

True. A lot of people apply for SSD claiming psych disorders (bipolar, depression, etc.) that are much more subjective than being paralyzed from a car wreck. In the end, it may just come down to hiring the best attorney and hoping a "sympathetic" analyst awards your claim.

In addition, many receive SSI which is a pure welfare program. It's not based on working a certain number of quarters. You can start receiving it any time (including childhood) and not do a day of work in your life. What's more, there's an incentive not to work as it can reduce your SSI payments.

My cousin is one of those ones awaiting benefits. He broke his back in a motorcycle accident. Meanwhile, his wife has left him. What would you say to him?

do not rely on the system. ALWAYS keep some savings in the mattress for days like this. as been correctly pointed above- system is broken and you can't simply rely on it any more.
life is like a zebra - there are always stripes - black stripe, then white stripe, then black stripe, and then always white stripe again - so just keep going!

Somebody claiming disability is basically claiming they can no longer compete in the job market/ workplace.

So if you are thinking about getting disability you better be prepared to wait 800 days AND NOT WORK during the application time....

I have heard that ALL disability claims get denied the first time around and you need to get one of those disability attorneys...like Binder & Binder...

If at first you can't get on the dole, try, try again (with the right lawyer).

What a country we've become.

Quote from achilles28:

^ People like that ought to be arrested and charged with fraud.

Skip the arrest part and go straight to the firing squad.

If we want to really rid the system of corruption, death sentences are in order.

Prison is just another burden hoisted upon the taxpayers.

the car could belong to a friend. the car could be rented. the car is not likely to be registered in her name. therefore it would be difficult to prove a fraud.

you sound jealous. learn to game the system yourself. the more government there is the more ways there are to game the system.

Until we run out of OPM. The OPM includes the Chinese, who may need us now but not forever...
