What do y'all think of protesting business closures? For those who respectfully disagree with the decision to shutter small businesses.

1. First, stop by the police dept and OK it with them.
2. Put it in writing--send a letter to the Mayor's office to state hours of protest; maybe 5-6pm daily?
3. Prepare a sign, something like "REOPEN THE BUSINESSES"
4. Don mask and gloves.
5. Hit the corner of Main Street.

RISK:

1. I get cuffed, stuffed, and thrown in the clink by the po-po. Hopefully the letters and approval will mitigate this risk.
2. People yell and throw things at me.

I've asked a few friends, and they're encouraging me.

You just gave the employees state unemployment plus 600 bucks per week to the end of July --- which is many times more than they earned in the donut shop. I think when you tell these people to return to work with the fear of contacting COVID-19 still high... they are just going to flip the owner/manager the bird.

Yeah, but where does that leave kmiklas? It's all about him. He wants customer service, and he wants it now. And everyone knows that donut shops are essential businesses.

You should protest as needed as long as it is peaceful and safe distancing is practiced.

It is American to notify the police that you will be safe and peaceful. However, it is un-American to excessively seek the police/state approval and "ok" before protesting. Conduct yourself honorably, and give them a copy of the Bill of Rights if they have a problem.

Tis the nature of protest that things may not always be to someone's liking. There are risks to both sides though. Refer to Gov. Whitmore and Michigan for more on that. That would be the same Governor Whitmore who was being considered for VP until last week.

The whole idea of an American stopping by to the police to have them "ok" a protest makes me want to vomit though. Unless it is just to give notification as may be required for traffic and crowd safety purposes by some ordinances.

I wonder if Michigan has jailed that person yet for working in her garden behind her house.
