Paul Ryan agrees to be House Speaker -- if certain conditions are met

The demands basically being that the conservative Tea Party members shut their mouths, never dissent, and follow his lead in every vote.

'Ryan’s allies say his conditions for becoming speaker are likely to include an understanding that he would have a free hand to lead without a constant fear of mutinous reprisals.'

'Ryan envisions his possible speakership as one that would be buoyed by his own political capital and shaped by an aggressive Republican policy agenda, rather than one consumed by catering to the whims of tea party back-benchers: “He’s got a vision for the party that he can articulate. He knows policy, philosophy, and where the party should go intellectually.”'

I wondered how this tool Ryan was going to finagle this. Now we have the answer.

Per CNN:

"The conditions

Ryan will run only if he's supported by three groups inside the House Republican conference: the House Freedom Caucus, the Republican Study Committee and the moderate Tuesday Group, his spokesman, Brendan Buck, said.

Ryan also had a few more demands: The conditions:

He wants changes to House rules made as a team--- a major demand of the House Freedom Caucus; he wants to make it harder to overthrow a sitting speaker; and he wants a better work-life balance than out-going House Speaker John Boehner had."

So in other words, he's attempting to make it look like the conditions the Freedom Caucus had for him being speaker are really his conditions. I just knew there would be bs like this.

Bottom line. Ryan is getting down on his knees and kissing the rear end of the Freedom Caucus and trying in vain to make it appear otherwise.

It's not over with yet, but GWb, it appears you were right about there being someone who would have to kiss the backside of others. You just got the part wrong about which side would be doing the kissing.

He also demands family time.

Ryan also said he would delegate much of the job’s travel and fundraising demands if elected so that he could spend enough time with his wife and school-age children: “I cannot and will not give up my family time.”

IOW.... Ryan is saying, "I will agree to be your master so long as all of you STFU and do what I tell you"??

That is exactly what he is saying. Today the word is that he will make each and every Tea Party conservative sign a pledge stating so.

Actually the Freedom Caucus better go out and buy some knee pads. They are going to be required to blow their new master whenever he demands.

I am not the least bit wrong about which group holds the upper hand here. I hope the Tea Party conservatives enjoy signing their new strict loyalty cards to Ryan.

You've been spending too much time in the global warming thread. You're catching their tendency to hallucinate.

Actually every mainstream media outlet agrees that the "Freedom Caucus" conservatives have been handed a harsh lesson. They basically chain-sawed a tree and it fell on them.

Now the "Freedom Caucus" will need to strictly toe the speakers line and can't even make public statements that differ from the mainstream Republican agenda.

This entire situation is shaping out very much how I stated it would weeks back.

Are you forgetting that every mainstream media outlet also is behind the global warming con?

The Freedom caucus chewed up and spit out Boehner and Mccarthy. Paul Ryan still doesn't have the votes. How anyone can claim that the rinos have won here beggars belief.

Here's the bottom line and there is no getting around it with mush. If he takes the job and House rules change back to 'regular order' , then that means Paul Ryan and the rest of the rinos caved. If he gets the job and House rules remain as they were where the speaker is a little dictator, then the Freedom Caucus caved.

Of course there is a third option that the rinos are exploring. Vote with democrats for the speaker position. In my opinion, that would be very fitting. No more hiding behind fake platforms.

Let's read the statement in context of the reality...

Here it is from Reuters...

Ryan to run for House Speaker if he can unify Republicanb

'But Ryan laid down conditions that could anger the conservatives. He said he wanted a House rules change that would remove the ability of any member of the chamber to seek a vote to eject the speaker.

Such a threat, coming from conservatives, was hanging over Boehner in the weeks before he announced his resignation, effective Oct. 30.

According to King, Ryan said: "I am willing to take arrows in the chest, but I won't take them in the back".'

Conditions are being laid down so the Freedom Caucus will be powerless to eject the speaker or to oppose him in any manner. That's the bottom line - the Tea Party conservatives are being handed a harsh lesson.

Trying to make the rule changes as something the Freedom Caucus advocated for and that Ryan is simply adopting their agenda.... simply is not true.
