Paper Trading Goals

you trade sim til you know whats going on, rather than blow several small accts or one large one learning

Exactly ammo. I am trading sim til I know whats going on, however long that takes. I got time. I blew up one small account thinking I knew what I was doing.

Thank you ammo,

Ok, I have the Volume Profile on the chart.

Can you please let me know if I have it set up correctly?

How can I determine the ES daily VAH, POC, and VAL with thinkorswim?
doesnt look right , you have a 5 day graph there you should have 5 one day profiles on the left and a 5 day cumulative on the right,, have never used the vah/ val..

have told this to many and they seem to fade off, but it's crucial that you hand chart, without it that chart doesnt mean anything, it doesnt really unless you want to use it for a reference, the stuff in your head you learn from hand charting, the repetition, is what gives you the clue of where its going and what you base your decisions on, i've learned some trying to explain it but i couldnt really explain what i know,, the hand charting sort of teaches you with no words.. that will make sense after you do it for a while

Thank you ammo,

I have used VAH/VAL before but was never sure how they are calculated or where they come from. I use to pay for a service that provided VAL/VAH, volume profile daily along with resistance and support zones.

I like your idea of charting by hand and will visit your thread http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?t=217889 and ask you some questions if you don't mind.

Thanks

I agree, examples helps as well. I need practice as I am simple support and resistance person.

If you mean learning how to use and configure the platform, and/or for learning what's going on with an automated (no human interaction/interference)strat, I agree.

Trading sim as a means of learning "how to trade" (unless you don't know how to place and modify trades on the platform) isn't real-life, and has been pointed out by others, trading live is different than trading sim. And to that I say, then what's the point?

I lost 10K today trading sim. What do you want for dinner?
I earned 50K today trading sim. Damn, my car insurance is due!

I trade live and I still paper trade. I like it so I can not only backtest strategies but test out new ones so I can get a feel for them. Also, I like the investopedia/marketwatch sims so you can compete against others and have special rules/games. I have learned a lot from paper trading though, I suppose I could've blown the same amount of time staring at the tv.

I'm a Demo billionaire, demo takes away all my issues and hey presto billionaire :(

So I've been learning with Sacrifical $100 account via Spot, it's not enough to lose sleep over, but it creates the greed, fear and ego responses required.

Thinking I should withdraw all of account, go back to $100 while I work on how to trade new market conditions, before I take a HUGE HIT!!!

But greedy, so trade on!!

Thanks Turveyd,

What is the "Sacrifical $100 account via Spot"? I use Apex simiulator to sim.

Just a cheap Fxcm account, load it with $100 see how long it lasts, it's $100 so who really cares ( okay me I'm poor lol )

I've blown some in a day, but haven't blown 1 in about 4 years.
