There are fancy watches that don't look fancy to the casual observer. IMO dressy, low-key hand-crafted mechanical timepieces will never go out of fashion in the business world. Not in the US nor elsewhere.

The pathetic dumbfucks with Vertu phones are the same type that hope wearing a $25k roset gold Hublot shaped like a brick makes them look like a big shot.

But again, you miss my point:

a) Yes there may be Vertu cult; but then there are countless cults in China among some newly rich kids, who have very little brain mass between the ears, very little incentive to work hard and be creative, very little energy to even do the above because they never had to move a finger in their lives and they all gather in small groups and worship their latest brand gods. While outside the American and European regional brand managers of Tiffany, Cartier, Ferrari, Benz, are laughing their ass off and show (deserved) pride in how well their marketing strategy works. No wonder, the whole brand showoff already almost came to an end in Japan, the US, and some European markets: If you do not have a brain and self confidence but believe your brand phone or other products reserve your spot in society then your only yardstick and care is what the person next to you has. When nowadays all the Chinese and Russians standing next to you wear stuff you could not even afford in half your life time then what do you have left?

b) I respect any collector of items, worth pennies, who shows love, care, and expertise to what he collects, a hundred times more than someone who could maybe afford cars or watches worth hundred thousands of dollars but knows nothing about them. Prime example: All those bastard children of the Saudi family who vacation each year for 3-6 months in Monte Carlo and vicinity and end it with a splash in London and bring their super cars to show off. You see some of those sports cars that were custom changed and equipped with automatic gear boxes because some of those kids are apparently too dumb to even button shift gears. I am not jealous, though I love cars and am a proud owner of a nice car myself. Many of those cars you see cruising around London with Arabic number plates are beauties, absolutely gorgeous but there is no way on earth I would not lose any and all respect for most of the drivers as soon as they open their doors or when I overhear their conversations at the patios of many of the restaurants. For me it is not about being jealous or not but I guess I have an inbred resistance to accept stupidity. If someone is truly stupid and helpless at the same time they deserve support. If someone is lucky but plain stupid then I feel obligated to point it out, can't help it ;-)

ha, yeah a solid piece of engineering which comes with 5 dollar plastic head sets of the worst kind, made in China. Dude, keep it real for a second. The phone's technology is totally outdated. This is a phone for people who lack self-confidence and need to show that they can afford one, nothing else. Do not attach more stigma to it than absolutely necessary.

surf must have upgraded to the TI Ferrari...at least the latest one actually looks more useful then a low end nokia.

To be honest I thought it was another joke...but it turns out there is such a thing lol, never heard of vertu before :P
