Opinions on "TigerDirect"

Quote from Gyles:

I would like to buy a good, cheap computer for trading purpose. I have heard a lot of "TigerDirect".

Please give your opinions on this.

You take a risk with TigerDirect of getting shoddy hardware. If it happens, you're gonna have some serious problems getting it fixed/reimbursed, because they are scumbags when it comes to that.

While it's most likely that everything will be fine, there is a significant chance of rip-off.

Keep that in mind.

Thanks for your reply, and I think I shall go for the Windows XP, as at least the trading software shall run on them. However, is it really needed to upgrade to Windows Vista, even if the software can run on it? Will the earlier version not be able to run on them?

Please tell something of the Trading softwares mentioned, E-Signal and TradersStudio. Thanks!

I think that you forgot one point, Gyles. What about the speed? Had read that speed of PC also matters. If slow, then you miss opportunity and money.

So, what is the good speed we need to have?

Thank you, TraderSystem, for pointing out the speed factor. I would like all of us to come together and think of the best suitable computer configuration running the various trading platforms.

I would be real grateful if someone gave some idea about the trading platforms and their PC requirements.

100% right. Gyles-Vista is big bs, games oriented OS. it all about DX10(with very few games for it right now) and MS pushing "games for windows". XP will be around for while and most of applications will work just fine. imo-no need to have vista at all for next 3-5 years. make sure you have at least 2gb ram and if computer for trading only-no need to have some extreme video card. cheap ones will work just as top of the line with less power consumption and noise

Thanks Bob111 and sorry for the late reply. I had thought that the comment was for Hydroblunt. :)

What is the situation regarding Vista, at the moment?

Quote from DonKee:

I bought a pc from tiger and it works great, although i have added my own memory and additional video cards.

here is my suggestion:

1) DoNot buy one of their packaged systematics, unless it has everything you are looking for. These low priced packages are basically full of yesterdays' motherboards, video cards, memory, etc.

2) Do buy a systematic if you can specify the processor, motherboards, memory, video cards, etc.

These products are fine, but you need to know what your platform requires.

I use Trade Station which takes a huge amount of processor speed and memory.

I agree with him, I also have purchase from Tiger direct, but when you do get it customized

Quote from TraderSystem:

So Gyles, what have you finally decided to buy? Do let us know?

I had finally decided to buy parts separately i.e. to assemble the computer. The specifications were as per the requirements of TradersStudio software.

I've built a couple of machines myself by picking components piecemeal at zipzoomfly.com

Great success with them and with others I have sent there.
