Opening Orders - 2008

Quote from RhinoTrader:

To anyone trading larger size and/or more illiquid stocks:

Do you ever find that you are making up an uncomfortably large percentage of the volume in a stock? And what would you consider "uncomfortable"? Say for example that your size is 4k shares and the first print is 40k shares - would that concern you much? What sort of level in participation (relative to total volume)is a suitbale maximum in your view?

Cheers

I don't go back and review what my fill was as a percentage of the total opening print, but I'm sure many times it's a significant amount. Sometimes my position in a stock might be 5% of the total day's volume, but that's ok because I'm asking for a premium to provide liquidity to the market. If I get my vig, I'm happy. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but over time it does. I am not exiting stuff in 5 seconds though like some do. If I'm liquidity constrained, I have to work out over more time with many orders.

I was "thinking" too much, didn't want to buy, wide envelope, only 1 fill +$200 in RIO.

I hate it when my brother starts talking economics before the opening, made me not want to buy anything, LOL.

A limerick for Friday to describe today's experience:

THE SPECIALISTS AT N-Y-S-E
WANTED NO PART OF MY O-P-G
I OFFERED TO SELL, THEY SAID "GO TO HELL"
"AND ON ALL OF YOUR BIDS WE SHALL PEE"

Yeah, it is tremendously weak, but so was today's opening for me. Have a good weekend.
