Odds Czar: Simple Biases in the Futures Markets 2007

Art's futures biases for Mar 30.

A "1" means bullish bias. A "-1" means bearish bias. The total is the sum of biases. A positive sum will be long bias. A negative sum will be a short bias. A sum of zero will be a neutral bias.

The index indicators continue to insist on an upmove. We're seeing strong affirmation in every broad signal category.

Although recent volatility has been obscuring any clear-cut stock market direction, the immediate trend seems to be more up than down-oriented. For Monday, the calendar biases are again unanimous and other two major signal categories both net out to the upside as well. The best bet is to buy the Russell.

I’m going to avoid the predominantly-bullish signals in the indexes because of the dissenting less-frequent sell readings in the second box. A better bet for Tuesday would be to follow the uncontested buy flashes in the bond complex, particularly the 10-year notes.

It’s probably a good thing that the CzarCharts tend to pull in their horns roughly proportionately to how trading in general dries up. We have a holiday-shortened week, small ranges, and little enthusiasm anywhere. Tack an extra day onto your extended weekend. Hopefully, we’ll get something we can sink our teeth into for Monday.

For Monday, expect downside action in the currencies, particularly the euro.

The best bet for Tuesday is the upside of the bond complex, particularly the 30-year. Today's deciding votes are generated in the second box of less-frequent indicators, namely cup bottoms and two-day open-to-close fade signals.

We are also overdue for a stock market correction. Today marks the seventh consecutive higher Dow close. The reversal may happen as early as Tuesday, but I'm holding off until I can get confirming CzarChart signals.

For Wednesday, both the continental currencies are flashing buys across both broad signal groups.

As for these paltry index performances of late, there is still no perceivable clear-cut direction. I’m reasonably assured, however, that the next uni-directional move, be it up or down, will be significant. We’re in a coiling environment, a textbook harbinger of imminent follow-through. Ideally, the move will wait until the signals line up better.
