Obama with zero countries backing him on syria:I Didn’t Set a Red Line,The World Did

Quote from Grandluxe:

Obama is a fucking idiot and a liar.

First he dare not follow through on his "promises" when his allies abandoned him, then he said he didn't make the statement.

He is always trying to shift responsibility in everything that he does.

Now you know why the economy is in trouble.

These current economic troubles are during the good part of the business cycle. It could get better over the next year or two but then it will get much worse. I'm untangling from everything in the US of A because I just don't want to be here at that point in time unless I'm in Wyoming [and without my California license plates, and am on very good terms with all the militia factions, and nobody knows where my stash of survival goods is, etc.]

Quote from piezoe:

Try a little harder, Pad, to be accurate, will you. There are several countries backing the U.S. on this action, chiefly France. Syria was a French Mandate following WW I. Also Turkey, the Saudis, and a handful of other States are behind U.S. intervention. (Israel would have to be, wouldn't they.)

We should not lose sight of the fact that Syria is a minor oil producing country. They supply petroleum products chiefly to the EU and have at least one oil refinery. Before the latest conflict, and there have been many, Syria was seeking to export natural gas. In recent years, they have been a net importer of petroleum products, nevertheless, petroleum exports serve as their chief source of foreign exchange reserves.

Syria is populated with factions that don't get along with each other (Sunni, Kurds, Christians, Shia). Their cities are some of the oldest continuously occupied cities on Earth. Damascus, may in fact be the oldest. The U.S. invasion of Iraq was the direct or indirect cause of priceless antiquities being lost or destroyed. Now the same thing could happen in Syria. One would hope the U.S. would think about that before unleashing a destructive force against Syria.

Whatever the euphemistic term chosen by the the U.S. administration, sending warhead armed missiles into another country is an act of war, whether you send one or 10,000. Syria is at war with its own people; soon it will be at war with the U.S. as well. No real thought has been given by the United States as to the ineffectiveness, or costs, of what it is about to do. If that thought had been given, the U.S. would not do what it is about to do.

There are very few problems that can be satisfactorily solved by war.
And Max's own country, Canada, supports a strike, though they've admitted they won't do anything material to help. This board is littered at the moment with righties in panic. You can almost smell the fear.

That's good ole Canada for ya.

Who is the one that really needs to go. Assad, really?

Many people would prefer it is this asshole.

max already schooled you, but lemme just ask, what assets are these countries committing to the effort? i'm guessing a whole lot of nothing.

why would this ever be a consideration for going to war?

I agree it's just stupid.

There are very few problems that can be satisfactorily solved by war.
you couldn't be more wrong, though it wouldn't be 'right' war can solve basically any dispute. while it is probably the ugliest human endeavor and all sides might come out guilty of something.. it can be necessary and has been throughout human history, the US wouldn't even exist if not for war.

That being said, a US "intervention" in syria is completely unnecessary. What we should be bombing are the people responsible for benghazi, al qaeda, wherever we find them.

Community organizer goes
to war

Oh, how I long for the days when liberals wailed that “the rest of the world” hated America, rather than now, when the rest of the world laughs at us.

With the vast majority of Americans opposing a strike against Syria, President Obama has requested that Congress vote on his powers as commander in chief under the Constitution. The president doesn’t need congressional approval to shoot a few missiles into Syria, nor — amazingly — has he said he’ll abide by such a vote, anyway.

Why is Congress even having a vote? This is nothing but a fig leaf to cover Obama’s own idiotic “red line” ultimatum to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria on chemical weapons. The Nobel Peace Prize winner needs to get Congress on the record so that whatever happens, the media can blame Republicans......

LOL, The support Obama has for going to war in syria is equivalent to the guy in the background who yells "Kick his ass!" when two people are standing toe to toe getting ready to fight.

Remember this from that fat pig Michael Moore mocking Bush for his "coalition of the willing" which included most, of the G7 countries?

I wonder when that fat commie pig will finally finish passing ricter the rest of the way through his anus, so he can do a new video mocking obama's even lamer coalition, the people who proudly support him from the sidelines and do NOTHING to help.
