Obama pays price for thinking Bush was a dunce

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

There's no doubt that Bush was an idiot...which would make the ET klannish Bush supporters during his term idiots, which would make many of their comments about Obama idiotic...

This statement is trying to make what point?

Quote from Gabfly1:

Sure you can. Weren't there federal budget cuts that specifically affected the proper construction and ongoing maintenance of the levees before Katrina hit? Budget cuts to pay for the tax cuts for the rich? Did the Obama administration proactively take measures that gave rise to the BP spill? To be sure, the government oversight agency has some serious explaining to do, but you and I both know that the incident did not occur to the extent that it did because Obama had taken specific measures to make it possible. Apples and oranges. Specifically blame Bush for the extent of the damage done by Katrina, but don't specifically blame Obama for BP.

My original statement of

"You can either blame Bush for Katrina and Obama for the oil spill, or blame neither of them for either incident. But you can't pick and choose."

is now amended to

"You can either blame Bush for Katrina and Obama for the oil spill, or blame neither of them for either incident. But you can't pick and choose. Or rather, you can if you want to conveniently pick and choose items of causality and view the world through your own rose-colored glasses, but that doesn't make it right."

My bad.

The simple point:

If instrumentation is faulty, you don't rely on it.

The republicans showed in their support of Bush, blind support, that their mental instrumentation is faulty...not to be trusted.

Some of us who are conservatives did not vote republican in the last election OR in the previous one.

You're mass labeling here. Not that I'm surprised, mind you.

Just because you and I believe Bush was an idiot does not make it so. It only makes it so in our eyes. Bush supporters obviously didn't think so. I think Obama is a fool. You don't. So does that mean that people who vote for him again in a few years are fools to me, but not to you?

Who is right?

Quote from Mercor:

(AP)
President Obama went from the triumph of passing his national health plan to the tragedy of the BP oil spill in just two months.

It was only March 28 when Obama pronounced that getting Congress to pass a bill strenuously disliked by the American people was proof that government could "still do big things." By May 28, Americans were watching oil belch up from the briny deep and wondering whether government could do anything at all.

Blame over what Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano might call a "man-caused disaster" in the Gulf of Mexico will be traded until long after the last pelican has been wiped down and the final check has been cut ....

Some of the blame will be unfair, and some will be well placed. But a good bit from both categories will adhere to the president, who once was seen as spotless.

When Obama was running for president in 2008 he was still bashing George W. Bush for his handling of Hurricane Katrina, scoffing at Bush's promise to "do whatever it takes" to help New Orleans residents rebuild.

Obama knew perfectly well that there were problems in New Orleans that predated Katrina that could never be fixed by the federal government, no matter how long the Bush administration carpet-bombed the city with free money. But he was not going to give up any of his rhetorical flourishes ..

Obama believed his own hype and figured that he could succeed where Bush failed.

Now, two more years down the road, Obama has been unable to solve the problems that he accused Bush of leaving behind through "half-hearted leadership." And now the city faces another disaster...

Of all the fictions that Democrats embraced during the Bush presidency, perhaps the most dangerous was that Bush was an idiot.

Obama's misapprehension will pay bitter dividends for his presidency for years to come.

Excellant points, Merc.
But with Janet Nut-politicano[sorry spell checker not used,LOL]:D ,
partly in charge of Homeland Security;
''the system worked Christmas day''. People may blame her most.

Many & most Hispanics may soon realize the new AZ law is really much less strict than the federal law.Personally I like that Coast Guard officer in charge of the BP cleanup. He does not think or claim to be God;
but most thinking people never think the gov is God ,anyway.

I had a very good time under President Bush, even toward the end. Now everything has turned to shit. What Change? change for the worse. If this was 100 yrs ago in Japan, he would have been asked to commit seppuku.

There's no doubt that Bush was an idiot. Not too many will argue against that....
Funny how so many "smart" people have no problem putting hard evidence aside and claim that their own, biased, personal feelings and desires are good enough to be presented as objective proof of something or other...

What do we know for sure about W?
1. Very well educated
2. Self made multimillionnaire by his mid 30s
3. Was elected governor of Texas against the democratic establishment - twice
4. Was elected President of the USA twice, beating "smart" elitists like Gore and Kerry
5. Took the country out of the financial mess left by Clinton (which culminated in the stock market crash of 2000/2001) and created gazillions of jobs over the next few years
6. Pulled the country together after 9/11 as shown by his skyrocketing polls over and above the opposition of the liberal media
7. Fought two successful wars (I opposed both of them) and made our friends like us and our enemies fear us, which is how it should be... By so doing, he took the fight over our enemies territory and kept this country safe... By the same token, he freed two nations that were suffering under bloody dictators and gave them a decent chance at democracy - it's up to them to hold onto those gains
8. Distanced himself from the UN where dictatorships are in the majority (great move)
9. Supported Israel like no other president before him (Sharon's own words)
10. Brought back decency to the White House after Clinton's lies and (as a result) well deserved humiliating impeachment and disbarment
11. Stood for the rights of our soldiers
12. Stood for the value of life and the rights of the unborn
13. Things were going fine until the Dems took over the Congress in 2006 and brought progress to a screetching halt - pushing cheap mortgages to millions who counld't afford them and covering up for Wall Street who nearly bankrupted us
14. Tried to expose the extreme bias to the left of our mass media and was punished severely by most of them
15. Even as his approval rate fell (the media saw to that) his score remained well above Pelosi's and Reed's single digits...

I may not have been his strongest supporter, because of the wars, but this is not too bad of a record, much better than many other presidents' records in recent history.

And now we have this incompetent, inexperienced man trying to figure out how to run the show... but the teleprompter doesn't seem to help much there days :)

USA's health care will be like the oil spill but it will take a lot longer... It will drag on getting worse and worse with no end in sight and a lot of bullshit will come out of the politicians that accomplishes nothing...

The left has been after the very prosperous Jews and Protestants money for a long time and they are getting it but it's just going to create inflation that will absolutely starve out the lower classes while the prosperous people that have real assets will not be hurt that much... eventually we'll be like South America with the wealthy cowering behind gates and the poor plotting their demise but it won't be as bad because many of our wealthy and our poor have Bibles and they are literate... the difference between the French Revolution where so many heads rolled, including the revolutionaries, and the American revolution was the Bible, the French didn't have it, the Americans did...

Excellent postings......Bush was PROFESSIONAL President.
After 9/11 the economy just stopped, look at some of the economics numbers following 9/11.
Bush brought it all back. Until everyone realized Obama was going to become president, about Aug 08'. Then everything hit the fan , all the dirty laundry was made public.

Obama is at the place Bush was after 9/11 unfortunately Obama has the exact opposite policies that Bush used to saved the economy post 9/11
