Obama making bid to diversify wealthy neighborhoods

"Diversify" wealthy neghborhoods is code word for "run them into the ground."

Exactly. Our town council decided years ago to put a Section 8 housing complex near our upper middle class neighborhood in Cary NC. At the time, they claimed that crime would not increase and made assertions that all the homeowners were prejudice (which was funny because their biggest critic was a black guy with a PhD from our neighborhood).

They built the low income complex and western Cary turned into a high crime ghetto from the spill-over crime. We now have murders, robberies, drug dealing, and lots of property crime - all associated with this complex. Cary has regularly been voted as one of the 10 safest towns in America, but now our "node" on the western side of town near RTP is the top crime area.

Needless to say all the town council members who voted "yes" have been voted out.

I am going to move to somewhere that is safe..... like Durham.

Same thing happened in the area I grew up in, in canada, government moved subsidised housing in right in the area I grew up in under the theory that the good behaviour of the citizens in the area would somehow be contagious, but instead what happened is a bunch of criminals just moved in and turned the entire area into a shithole. When I grew up in this area we didnt even lock our doors at night and probably from the time i wasd six or seven years old I would just wander out of my house in the summer time and play with my buddies all day, with no adults anywhere. Now you wouldnt dare leave your door unlocked, even while you are at home, let alone allow your kids to play in that area, let alone allow them to play in that area unsupervised.

Its sad going back to the area i grew up and seeing it turned into a total shit hole.

Ahhhhh the joys of failed liberal social engineering run amok.

There will be no hoods where politicians or wealthy wall street donors live that this will occur. It will mostly be in middle class hoods. It happened in a lower middle class neighborhood I lived in.

It began with one house (I'm not sure it was HUD, but was told it was). The tenant was a white trash female who allowed diapers to pile up several feet in one room alone (the rats and roaches were unbelievable). She allowed crackheads to move in with her who smoked crack under the street light all night long. The neighborhood petitioned the owner of the property to evict her. It was successful only the first time.....within 5 years, and multiple tenants who had no sense of responsibility, the neighborhood had turned to shit, after which my wife and I moved out to the country.

The last straw for me was getting an outboard stolen from my shed while working one night. While we were selling the vacant house, it was vandalized repeatedly, and at one point, stolen property was placed in the fenced back yard. Unfortunately, it wasn't the property stolen from me.

I will point out, this wasn't a black issue. The rotating tenants of this property were black or white at various times. I am not implying that all tenants who move into a better neighborhood will be losers. In my town, habitat houses are now being incorporated into some pretty nice neighborhoods. While working on a few, I met some tenants who were decent people, though quite poor. I believe that habitat vets their tenants. Not sure if HUD does.

Landlords like to rent to section 8 tenants because the government pays the rent. Not sure who is responsible for the inevitable destruction of the property.

The owner is responsible...and I would NEVER rent any of my houses to Section 8's. It's damn near impossible to get them out without multiple court visits, and once you finally do get a judgement it's almost guaranteed they will steal everything not bolted down (refrigerator, washer, dryer, TV, etc) and destroy whatever they can't take (cement in the toilets, tub, sinks, graffiti/holes in the walls).
