OBAMA: I’VE RESTORED THE US AS THE ‘MOST RESPECTED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD’

I traveled a lot when Reagan restored america. I remember being in spain particularly but also in the rest of Europe and seeing quite a bit anti Reagan and anti american slogans. There was a strong resentment in the hater class and the leftists. But, of course back then we did not care about them.

At the same time many other Europeans loved us and our dollars. Traveling in Yugoslavia was amazing at the time. One other note... of course the Parisians were as arrogant as they could be, but the rest of France really seemed to like Americans.

I believe both Bush and then Obama took us down notches. The question is which notches, how many notches and from which observers.

My argument would be that Obama took us down quite a few notches in the eyes the people Obama was attempting to please. Bush took us down in their eyes too... but he was not attempting to please them.

I have done a lot of traveling and know what your talking about. The fact of the matter is America is the lone superpower in the world. America is number 1. There are always going to be a group of losers who hate it no matter what simply because of its status. It is sort of like people who hate NY Yankees, the Patriots, Duke Basketball, Lebron James, Tiger Woods, etc.

If you are on top, people will find a reason to hate you. If you fall down a few notches like Woods, then they really pile on.

Perhaps the lowest of the low is Castro. Here is a loser that railed against America for years. His country is now a complete shithole stuck in the 1950s. Castro turns around and blames his failed policies on America. What a jerkoff! This guy is a hero of the left by the way.

That's weak, unpatriotic, and ignorant. The US probably is (remains) the most overall respected country in the world, despite recent history.
No what's unpatriotic is your leftist friends here at ET that can't wait for the demise of this country only to be replaced by some UN/New World Order.

Sure, why not? The sooner we have a world government the better. No more wars. No more artificial divisions among man. Just like Jesus would like.

Polar Temps... warming... all guesswork

I think it's fascinating how all these patriots are ridiculing their own president more than any other. Not that I think they ought to necessarily ridicule other presidents. Just that it's hard not to notice the evident zeal with which they go about taking down their own. They wish to take him down in the eyes of the world, not with constructive criticism, but with blatant ridicule. They wish to make their very own president an international laughing stock. Classy.

To be fair it was much the same with Bush II.

Not exactly. GWB's patriotism was never questioned. He was not seen as a subversive trying to take down the US or somehow conspiring with the enemy at the US's expense. He was not compared unfavorably with a president of a country with which the US engaged in a cold war and who had been the head of the KGB. I don't remember talk of taking up arms, revolt and revolution during GWB's tenure. I don't remember an extreme splinter group forming upon his taking office with the purpose of essentially taking him down.

Yes, it got out of hand with GWB from time to time. But it never approached these extremes.
